Got any cool tools lately?

Now, I want to see the tap handle that you drive it with lol
The ones we had at work for the bigger holes were a very cool magnetic base reversible rotator that varied in speed from mind-numbing slow to just painfully-slow.
Very cool piece of tooling though.

My dad had a few different sizes, when he ran the water district. Just chased threads for cleanup. Had a Rigid pipe treading handle with a ratcheting, reversible collect in it that was switched for each size. 4" was the biggest. Any pipe bigger than that had flanges or v-band type clamps.

Somewhere was a post about LED battery powered lights. I am at a loss to find it, so I am posting here.

An elderly neighbor who can no longer drive walked into the shop last week. It was 25* outside. He walked 1/2 mile. He watched me work for a bit, then asked, "are you up for a trip to Harbor Freight?" If I am not on a time crunch, I make a point of helping people. He has done this a few times. I asked what tool he needed. He shrugged his shoulders. I took that as he just wanted to get out. We loaded up and headed down town.

He walked around for just over an hour. Did not buy anything. I bought 2 magnetic base LED lights.
As of now, I am happy with them. Magnets are "paint scratching" strong.

Then he wanted to go to Chick-Fil-A. Now I know why he wanted to go. He bought lunch. I got to hear more local history and Vietnam stories.

These lights suck when working in the cab of ReTonkulous. I have not found an aluminum magnet yet. :D
Yeah that is one of my beefs with aluminum or fiberglass bodies.
My brother in law had the aluminum bodied kenworth and I I was trying to put my credentials on it for a trip using my magnetic sheet with the vinyl letters. I had to tape it on.

The "paint scratching" magnets,
Cover the magnet base with good black tape before sticking to panels that matter. Replace as necessary.

Also, if there are key places you would like a light now and then.
Under the dash facing wires, over head, etc.
Use the double sided tape deal, but to put a washer up.
Then you can leave it there for future use, or remove at a later date.

I've used both of these methods mentioned lol

That is a great idea! I going screw a piece of steel to the bottom of the wood shelfs in the shed.

Same problem working in aviation. Magnets are not good for much more than picking up dropped hardware.

Not new, or even new to me, but new in my shop. I needed some clamps and was at dad’s this week. These were in the damp basement trying their best to turn back into iron ore. They are from his old pattern shop/machine shop, The Royal Pattern Works. They are older than me and I’ll be 55 this year.

A couple rounds of PB Blaster, freed them up with the help of a pair of pliers, scrubbed with WD-40, and finally coated with some paste wax. We used to hit all raw steel surfaces with a coat of paste wax at least once a month. It’s just habit for me at this point.

Asked dad if I could take a couple and ended up grabbing 10 once I saw the rust. He asked me if I wanted his dad’s hand drill. So I just inherited this gem as well. It’s about 70 years old and dad had it in his bedroom. I’m hoping to get the wooden toolbox grandpa built too, but if my brother wants it I’m good with that.

I love bar clamps. If you wanted to completely clean the rust off, Evapo-rust is excellent. But I would not touch those with it. Cool the way they are.

Did you know we have a thread for those too..?
Lol

They fit here just fine, but you may want to look through the other one too if you like old ones.

I am in the future and it is cool. Came from old school plugged in heirloom to this after the wheel went out. Oh my why did I wait so long. Now I'm looking for things to jig. I no can store my blades inside the tool but that is a-okay

I was looking at an aluminum body jigsaw yesterday, serious old school quality, and just said “Nope, I rather have a battery powered one”. If I was going to use it all the time it would have been a good score, but for my needs what you bought would be perfect.
