Got any cool tools lately?

I was looking at an aluminum body jigsaw yesterday, serious old school quality, and just said “Nope, I rather have a battery powered one”. If I was going to use it all the time it would have been a good score, but for my needs what you bought would be perfect.
I like my old tools and I wouldn't get rid of them, I fear we will need them in our Iifetime again, but I definitely love my power tools especially my cordless ones.

Somewhere was a post about LED battery powered lights. I am at a loss to find it, so I am posting here.

An elderly neighbor who can no longer drive walked into the shop last week. It was 25* outside. He walked 1/2 mile. He watched me work for a bit, then asked, "are you up for a trip to Harbor Freight?" If I am not on a time crunch, I make a point of helping people. He has done this a few times. I asked what tool he needed. He shrugged his shoulders. I took that as he just wanted to get out. We loaded up and headed down town.

He walked around for just over an hour. Did not buy anything. I bought 2 magnetic base LED lights.
As of now, I am happy with them. Magnets are "paint scratching" strong.

Then he wanted to go to Chick-Fil-A. Now I know why he wanted to go. He bought lunch. I got to hear more local history and Vietnam stories.

I recently bought the smaller one you have pictured. It has been working great and is fairly bright. I dont know that I have seen the bigger one. It looks great too. Might have to make a trip... LOL.

Electric?
Yep, I actually wanted electric as a first choice and propane as a second choice. It will be used almost exclusively indoors so no emissions to deal with. It does surprisingly good on hard packed dirt and will help get things dialed in at my place in Texas. I do still plan on getting a telehandler like my hero Fastereddie.:D

That’s perfect.

I found a higher amp rated power strip.
Has a 12ga cord, and 20 amp outlets on it.
Cords about 20' long.
So I mounted it under the welding/work table and made up a cord wrap. Still have to round corners and paint on the wrap spot.IMG_20260228_042415868_MP.jpgIMG_20260228_042421577_MP.jpg

The mag drill is one of those tools you almost never need, but when you do, it's Amazing to actually have one on hand.

I pretty much just use mine for anything bigger than 1/2" .

We used those strips all over the place at my old plant and they worked great with plenty of abuse from folks that never gave the first thought to overloading.

Depending on where they were needed at each work station we mounted under shelves semi-overhead , under table tops and along legs just as you did - all worked out great.

Been loving mine so far.
I was going to change out to a 20 amp rated normal plug, but realized most of the outlets I have are all 20 amp , so I don't need to lol.

I recently needed a mag drill. None of my buddies had 1 to borrow, haven't bought one or decided which worth buying.

Task that the mag drill was needed drilling holes in lift post for air hose reel.
I drilled by hand, first a pilot hole, then correct dize for tapping 7/16 fine thread.
I had difficulty keeping the drill straight and my finished hole was not round and slightly over sized. The next 3 I use a 3 step method small pilot, 1/32 under finished size and finished size. These are much straighter, very close to round. I then used a camphor on opening to aid tap starting.

I've done two quadrajets in my vevor ultrasonic. Also cleaned a million other things in it. Works great!

Word of wisdom, don't put tap/cold water in it from the start. It'll take half the day to heat all the way up to 80c (max temp on mine anyway). Start with the hottest water you can get out of any faucet in your house and it'll save you several hours of warm-up time. Depending on what you are cleaning, you may not need it max-temp anyway. Also, put a towel on the lid for both heat and noise insulation.

X2 on preheating water.

I’ve had good luck keeping water in tray and using ziplock baggies to store cleaning solution and parts. Just throw the bag away when done, minimizes clean up.

Dawn and Simple green/purple power has worked well for me.
