Got bit by the grinder tonight

fault was all on me, i ran out of 4 1/2" discs, so i had a couple of 4" that i bought on accident and didn't notice that when i tightened it down since it had the wrong diameter mounting hole on the disc so it bowed the disc as soon as i tried to go back to cutting it bound as soon as it touched and kicked the grinder, the piece of the disc is still in the metal.

Glad to hear it was only stitches. I use one everyday at work, with and without the guard depending on what I'm doing and I have gotten very lucky with only a couple close calls. On the bonus side your on your way to a GMOTM win:waytogo:

I'd actually like to thank you, SuperMo'..... :waytogo:

From now on, I'm going to wear face protection whilst grinding.
I really can't take that chance anymore.
I've been 'lucky' one time, too many... :eek1:

I know my number's comin' up soon... :haha:

*knock on wood*

I get cut off wheels by the hundreds. I'll grab you a box along with the face shield and get 'em to you this weekend.

Glad you are OK!

That is a good wake up call for me...I sometimes will take a used up chop saw blade and use it on a 7 inch hand grinder. That always makes me nervouse...maybe I won`t do that anymore.

I wouldn`t want my kids to find me on the shop floor with my head cut off.

Thanks for posting that!

If my more then close call can open someone else's eyes to how dangerous some of the shady stuff we all do really is an how proper protective equipment really is. You wouldnt weld With sunglasses ( I wouldn't).

Thanks Paul you the man

well I have done swaping before but only if the hole is the same, you never put a disc that is not the right fit, glad you are OK.

This is how I cut my gas tank skid plate. I just unbolted the chop saw base.

Looking back I see several safety violations. How many can you find?

Done that many times, it's my best 14" circular saw. I just make sure when I am doing this that I am in best shape, if I doubt myself just a smidgen I don't do it because that thing twist so bad when you start it up, but once it's full speed, it's amazing how stable it is.

I share this pic as often as i can because these cut off wheels are no joke. It is the new circular saw

Using harbor frieght grinder with on off switch instead of paddle switch, with harbor friehgt cut off wheel. Grinder was dropped too many times and handle broke off so you could only hold it on the body of the grinder. Hunched over in wheelwell trying to cut a part off a disc brake dust shield. Grinder bound up and shot up into shirt. Was stuck on and not turning off. Was on for a good 4-5 seconds wedged in arm of shirt near bicep. Was finally able to pull cord out of wall to get it to shut off.

300 stiches in 3 layers. 6 hours of stitching. tons of pills to combat infection, 5 days in hospital.

pic is graphic.

Suprised i didnt get pulled over. Was flying down the road trying to get my buddie to the hospital because the blood was literally shooting out of his arm. Soaked a good 2 or 3 towels before we got there.

they were able to re attach the part of his bicep that was severed and he just now has a nice beefy scar but full use of his arm. Was lucky for sure.

Holy Sh!t, thats ridiculous i do believe i wouldn't be here today had my gotten stuck in anysort of way for more then a split second.
