hey guys, im missing a starter bolt on my 6.2 and any of the parts around me dont have them, nor do the gm dealers have them. dont ask, i dont know why. my mechanic apparenlty didnt tighten it down and i dont want to try to shortcut with a "match up" i need these things yesterday, trucks been in the mall parkinglot for a week. if any can help me out it would be great

The starter bolts are m10x1.5 thread x11.5mm long

I think these are the ones you are looking for.

thanks, called gm with them and they said they got nothing, im hesitant to try to just match up the threads as someone said starter bolts are unique, any chance for a part number?

Thanks man. I lucked out, Did a random good search and found someone on ebay who just put up a listing and included the part #. Its funny when i called Gm and said "I need a starter bolt for an 86 k30 with the 6.2L diesel" He was all upset and said he dosnt have it and its an old truck and blah blah blah. I mean, dont they have books/charts/computers to tell me the part #? Gotta be organized somehow. When i got the part # i called back and just read it off to see if he had it, he did... Geeze..

Glad you got the bolts. Makes you miss the good old go outa my way to help you out parts guys.

Yup, shes up and running, next time the starter goes, ill lay on my back in the snow and drop it myself, jeeze what a pain in the ass

i work for gm and im surprized they couldnt find it for you, they do have part numbers and computers and also books to look at and what dealer has them. Whatever parts i needed they either had or were able to get it from another dealer the next day. glad you got your truck going tho

So is it safe to assume that the threads in the block were good and just a bolt came out?

The unique thing about the starter bolts is the knurled portion near the head of the bolt. Glad you got it going!

yean i saw that, good to know. funny thing is when i told the mechanic he said bring it back in, he hadd a bunch of bolts "im sure i can figure something out" to which i replied no thanks, dont want it to be cross threaded/stripped, ill do it myself. never again heh

yup, good to go, though it its existance confuses me as those two beefy bolts seem to get the job done, but yeah thats how it came so its on haha

The "torque strap" keeps the starter properly aligned so the starter nose doesn't break. It is really important to have this strap on high compression engines as those are the ones that generally have starter issues and break nose cones.

I've been done with GM / Delco starters for a long time......

I use the Tilton style gear reduction starters......whip over a high compression big block like nobody's business with about half the amps....

Fock those Delcotron monsters.....never liked them anyway...
