What the hell kinda paint are you using?

I priced out all HOK stuff for my 1971 C10 since we sell it and it is gonna come in at about $2000 for the paint. It is a Tangerine Candy over a Copper base coat and a LITTLE platinum special effects in the first coat of the clear.

My buddy and I are doing all the labor so you can save A LOT there

If you alot of the prep work you and just have the shop sand it once more, seal it, prime it and paint it, you can save HUGE. But that kinda prep that you would be doing is BORING

I bought my polished alum billet grille through Summit racing for about $100, I think it's a Stull grille and I bought the billet bowtie seperately for like $25 or something. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I like the sound of your color choice, red is one of my favorite colors. Mine is going to be A metallic charcoal silver. I am not going all out for a show job paint job but something that will look good but not cheap like maaco...something in the middle. I am hoping I can do it for around $2,500 + the cost of new trim and bumpers. I have about $1,700 saved up right now for paint and am trying to save some more up.

are you ditching the bodyside mouldings and wheelwell trim? can't wait to get rid of mine... /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

btw, nice hood.. i'll be doing a steel at some point... got these sitting around from another project looking for something to do. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

think they'd be right at home under that cowl. /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Just wondering why a fiberglass hood and not a steel one?

I've been looking at cowl hoods and I definatly want steel, not fiberglass.
I spend too much time on the hood and getting places that would crack that.

COOL MAN!!! Now when you get done with the fluff truck, you can build a rock buggy so we can wheel.I just looked forward to getting things dirty with ya and tearin it up a bit!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

what is the point of getting a cowl hood and not making it functional? Oh ya some people do things just for looks, i forgot, put somthing on your truck that was enginered to improve preformance, and make it not work, good idea /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif

how is that not going to be functional? i'd be retaining the stock air cleaner and not making an airbox. it will certainly help evacuate hot air from the engine compartment. and do you really think those little gauges are gonna stop airflow to the engine compartment? its not like theres gonna be a plate over the opening, just 3 pods in it. just what i need this morn, a lecture on function over form. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

those are mechanicals and need to be out there, well the fuel at least. nah, knowing oil temp, fuel pres, etc isn't advantageous.. hell, if it was about looks, i'd put em on the cowl behind the hood, as opposed to protected and out of view under the cowlhood.. and yes, i do like the "look" of a cowlhood, excuse me for not wanting my truck to look like a POS.. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Ya know, I looked at the title to this thread and I knew who it was without even looking. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif

Cowl induction hoods are SCHWEEEET /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Hot air is only going to go out of the cowl when you aren't moving, so it's "functionality" for cooling is going to be pretty minimal. There's already a huge area underneath the truck for the air to flow once it gets through the radiator.

I say the only way to prove one way or another is get underhood temps for a few days both ways, and average. Like anyone is going to do that. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The fluff truck? /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Forget the rock buggy.

evacuating hot air from under the hood is not what those where deisigned for, GM came up with the idea to pull cold air from under the windshield to feed the intake, not to get rid of the hot air under the hood

OK, everyone quit....I bought a stinkin' cowl hood because they look good, I could hardly give a hoot about what it does for moving air because mine is closed off anyway. I bought mine soley for looks....and no I'm not going to hell for that. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

No, I'm not going to sit here and watch people post false info. If someone thinks these things are going to help it cool underhood, they are wrong, and I'm going to say so.

I'm just stepping up and saying so. Those comments weren't directed to you at all, so calm down.
