got my new street car(kinda)

A guy at work built a VW motor, I made fun of it till it was done........................ and in the car. He drove it in after it was done, done and broken in. He asked if I wanted a ride, I was like no way I don't want anyone to see me in that POS! But he talked me into it. HOLY MOTHER OF.............I will never talk sh!t about air cooled VWs again! Hell Ya!
I didn't listen much when he was building it at work, but I do rember the rods were the same length as my 350! I think its like a 2.5 liter. er something. The oil cooler is like the size of a radiator! With a huge a$$ fan! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My buddy built a 2270 with a turbo out of a 2.3 t-bird. He drove it for a total of 3 days before it ate a rod bearing /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. He was hitting the line lock 1 hour after he got the thing tuned, so no wonder it didn't like it.
Porsche 914 motors do put out a little more but they are a long block, expensive (compared to a type 1) to build and are a little trickier to put to gether. The guy that built the turbo motor tried to mess around with a 914 motor once and it threw a rod at about 1500 rpm while he was messing with the jets. Don't ask me how that works.

Thats alfull high for a used Porsha motor. I've seen them go for around $800.00 in Omaha, Ne. and alittle cheaper up here in Rapid City, SD. I priced a motor out of a wrecked 914 for $650.00 yesterday just for personal information. It needs rebuilt, but it does run. $650.00 isn't a bad price for what it is.

A 4 cylinder out of a 914 is not a Porsche motor. It's a type 4 VW...fairly cheap and a little more displacement than a type 1. A 6 cylinder real Porsche motor cost a lot! Whole different enchilada.

Thanks. Yea, I have had alot of fun with it already. I am getting it ready for the dunes for thanksgiving. It jumps really well, and has a real soft landing. Much better than the Jimmy did /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Very few 914s came with a 6. They are very rare and expensive. If there is one in a boneyard with a rebuildable 6 for $650 it would be a definite exception to the rule and very lucky find. It would still run mucho $$$ for a rebuild though.

Yeah, I bet it would be Mega $$$$$$$$ to rubuild. The Porsche 6cyl., aren't that uncomman in salvage yards here. I think it's couse in some citys there is a high demand for them. The yards out here don't have any demand for them. Had these cars sitting for years, so they'll sell the motors cheap just to get rid of them.

Man, that would be a cool motor to just have sittin' on a stand in your garage! Too, bad I don't have the room or $$$ for a "sittin around" display! OK, I won't dig this thread up any more....unless I need ya to pick me up a Porsha! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
