Hey guys nothing real technical about this but I just pulled the transmission drin plug. It looks like a lil grease on the end of the plug. Is that there to retain the small bits of metal that get stuck to the magnet. And what grease id any do you use when putting it back in?

I don't think grease is there for trapping metal. I think the grease was there because the metal trapped It.

The magnetic tip should capture anything magnetic including metal flakes and sludge that contains microscopic metal flakes. The grease you saw is likely just heavy sludge deterioration from the tranny fluid and it was stuck to the magnetic tip because it was an emulsion of grease and metallic dust.
