"Gredda's" Build / WTF / Help Me! Thread

well, i got the axle decently cleaned up and painted. then i went ahead and changed out the gear oil, it was looking a little rough. I also cleaned off the magnet inside. One of the bolts looked to be broken off in the housing, but it was the top bolt, and the PO had simply filled it with silicone and it looked like that worked just fine, so I did the same.

Next I am going to install the sleeve I got from ORD in hopes that it will fix my axle shaft leak.

but I am really running low on garage space with all these parts. Is there any issues with storing the axles on jack stands out in my driveway?

I am also concerned with how I am going to go about lifting the truck up to install the new axles and wheels. thoughts on that? so I can begin to tkae note of any tools, lifts, jacks, etc that I might need.

I currently have a pair of 4 ton jack stands, a pair of 2 ton jack stands, and a 4 ton floor jack.

***dont worry chalet, i didnt paint over the green....i swapped diff covers ;)

Only problem with storing it outside is you live in liberal ass Austin so some punk my try to take it since it's so shiny and all. Drop it on his foot and sue you for pain and suffering .

Any further on your interior? You need to get that thing back out of the garage and enjoy it!!!

Just got my welder back from my cousin, so I have a small crack in the floor to weld up, then its totally ready for the bedliner. I hope to get it welded, and completely taped off tonight, and then spray on weds. fingers crossed.

Yeah, I've got to get my act together. Looks like mine may finally get painted soon hopefully!!!

its funny...when i bought it, I was just gonna rock it stock, and fix things as they break, slowly upgrade.

i took one offroad trip in it, and shes been in the garage getting "beefed up" ever since. its a disease...i do the same thing to all my toys.

Yeah, it's been kind of a blessing in disguise that I don't have a garage right now. My current house everything has to be inspected, registered, and insured... Takes a little more planning, but it keeps me from biting off too much at once! I miss my 3 car garage though...

as soon as the interior is sprayed, the blazer can atleast live in the driveway for a week or two...that will help.

so most people would be embarrassed to show you their terrible welding skills. I just dont care....it'll hold!

dont judge me:D

So given that my new front axle is all still assembled, is there any harm in going ahead and swapping the front out? i wont be driving it anyways, its not even registered yet, just titled. Atleast would give me progress, and would make more room in my garage. But the truck would be kinda weird and on a slant until I get the back done. Just sitting here in the garage wondering what i can do next. (waiting on my buddy who does paint an body to come help me with the bedliner.)

i am going to remove my brand new hd ord tie rod from my current axle, and swap it to the new one. I think I am gonna leave the drag links and adj sleeve alone though...the new axles ones look pretty new. Any reason not to swap those while the old axle is on the truck, and the new one is just sitting in my garage?

Swap that front axle under there. Won't make a diff for doing the bedliner anyways. Lets see continued progress. :waytogo:

well, its not great progress, but I did get my ORD tie rod off the current axle and painted red. Now to swap it with the tie rod on the new axle.

I know, im piddling....but it was too hot out today to do any "hard" work.

Thanks Cherry for the new grill...I painted it up with some engine paint. Looks better than the old busted one for sure.

Glad that thing finally got put to use. Its been in the back yard for too long.

You should take some paint remover to the bowtie though. :waytogo:

Well, if it were closer to me, I'd give it a shot.

On closer inpection, it looks like the B pillar hoop would go to about the cab level and block the hardtop mounting bolts. That right there would be a 'no go' for me. Would prob take more to modify to work (for me) than to start from scratch. Also looks like it was in a roll, just behind the B-pillar hoop the horizontal bar drops down like it has been crushed while the other side looks straight across in the first pic.

yeah, im getting ahead of myself....but I am always keeping an eye on craigslist for a deal i cant pass up. especially when I got quoted $2k for a cage.
