Griff's thread about nothing in particular.

I wouldn't waste time with a 3.73 geared axle. But that's me. I have a full floater housing with no carrier or axle shafts sitting in my driveway. I have a 4.56+ carrier to go with it too as I need a 4.10- carrier for my new 5.38s. Parts for these are fairly common and it's an easy axle to setup even with HF tools.

I have a stock 3.73 carrier posted in the classifieds...

I really wish you had a grandma here in sunny southern Illinois to visit. I would send you back with a 4.56+ carrier AND a 30 pack. Plus a new puppy.

FF doesnt even take a fancy bearing puller to setup. My favorite to setup. Doing one this weekend hopefully.

Remember my buddy with the TBI 454? He just called and told me he bought another engine, a 71 350 that was built for a derby car, with paperwork showing 411 HP at 6900 RPM, for $600.

So I may still be able to get that 454.

Get a timing mark. The dampener has a mark. Clean it up. Time the engine.

A set of 3.42 gears is just fine for 31" tires.

Want to know what's really odd? Less than an hour ago I dug this thread up for the first time months, typed up a solid paragraph about the future of the Blazer, then thought better of it and didn't post it. Now you dug it up for me.

Anyway, that Dodge is a super clean, especially for $900. If it was a 4x4, It'd be worth going to take a peek at. It'd still be a hell of a nice tire burner with a nice small block in it.

I guess I need to share what the paragraph was about, so here's the condensed version. Myself and a friend messed with the Blazer some today. New cap, coil, ignition module, rotor, plugs and wires. Put a new fuel filter on it, plugged all the vacuum leaks we could find, got it timed as best as we could, and I go the little 2bbl Rochester a good as I can, Now it's running like a sewing machine, but still has about as much power as a sewing machine. So at some point we're going to pull it out and rebuild it with some peppy parts. Some of which I can get from a friend, A Holley 850 Double Pumper, an Edelbrock Victor Jr. Intake, and some long tube headers. I'll have to buy the rebuild kit, cam, and pistons.
After that, I'll be getting the same lift as @Phil513, then the only expensive thing left will be tires.

I also no longer really care about re-doing the interior. After I put the console in it, it totally changed the feel inside of it, so besides putting the other gauge cluster in it, it'll just stay as it is.

Did you check the rockers, make sure they aren't all over the place with adjustment?

Yes I did. As for the intake, He's got the Victor Jr and a Torker, but the Torker looks like it's been at the bottom of a lake for 6 years.

I might still just end up buying something like an RPM air gap or something though.

( I was just following the adage that the best ____ is the free-est ____)

Open plenum intakes suck on the street, especially on trucks
Fact is, I used a lot of dual plane intakes even when I was racing.

Any swap meets near by? Used aluminum intakes can be had for $40

Not that I'm aware of, Though I'm sure that I can find something locally.
