Griff's thread about nothing in particular.

38,000 mile 2014 5.3 sounds like a good thing to me. Is there anything that would be a problem being from a 2014 as opposed to an older truck?

It has VVT and DOD. Both are junk and require a cam and lifters swap to rid yourself of them. That being said that's the aluminum 5.3. If you don't buy it let me know.

I might be the oddball here, but I think new engine tech is pretty neat. Why would you get rid of such for a general purpose rig?

@GWeakland620, DBW is hardly the end of the world...

Yeah, after some further research, I don't really want to deal with VVT and DOD, or more importantly, getting rid of them, I don't want to have to tear this engine apart.

And that blue truck is on Copart, sitting in Alorton, which is basically East St. Louis / Granite City.

Durability and reliability. I just did the work to fix a failed DOD lifter. It's a crap job in the truck vs on the stand. The aluminum motor is nice though. And cams with LS7 lifters can be found cheap.

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure on what kind of extra fees are involved when buying something off Copart?

Alright, so am I right in thinking that the only real mechanical work involved in putting the LS in the square would be the motor mounts, notching the crossmember, and getting an aftermarket flexplate?

If so, that's awesome.

What's less awesome, is how daunting the wiring seems to me, If anyone needs me, I'll be here. http://lt1swap.com/

The wiring isn't hard once you sit down and just do it. A full break down is easy to find on line. Just take your time and each bundle of wires. Worst to worst head south and I can help you.

Here's some more recent pictures, in case anyone forgot what this truck looked like. Taken 10 minutes ago.
