Hey guys, did a quick search, didn't find what I was looking for.
The grille on my 90 burb is trashed, and I already pitched all the trim for the headlights. I want to upgrade to like a 92-98 style front end. Possible? What all is needed? Core support and everything in front of it? How's the fit to the fenders?

Thanks

89-91 = old square body stuff. has sideways lights like you have in your avatar pic.

88-up = new round body style and 100% totaly diffrent stuff. dont fit on old square body stuff.

but if you have 81-88 and want 89-91 setup then its core suport out and wire redo to fit 4 headlight setup.

Sounds like he answered you as well....

Theirs a thread of what your talking about on here I swear. Ill check

x2 on aftermarket fenders for pre runner stuff to make 73-91 stuff take 88-up nose.

and x2 on i did answer your question just in detail

but for others later its a basic no it wont bolt on easy at all. :D

so 88 and up is round? hell i always considered the 99 and up new body style the round... gotcha, thanks

these are pics from TOMUCHSTUFF's build. the front clip is all aftermarket fiberglass stuff I believe

I'm reading that you have a '90 Suburban and you want a 92-up (1st year new Suburban) style grille. I'm confused because I always saw the '88-91 Blazer/Jimmy/Suburban grilles as being designed to match the newer body style.

Newer style does have better lights. Still, doubt it'd be an easy swap.

I don't see how you could swap the actual grille from an 99-98 truck to a square body. They are completely different bodies. GM did the work for you by making a grille that fits that is styled like the newer trucks. Anything else will take custom sheetmetal work and probably not look as good as what GM did. Have you taken measurements off a newer truck? You can see the front end slopes down much more and the sides taper in.

the word "different" comes to mind here. Yep, that's it, I want something different. I actually think I'll build something out of 1/2" square tubing and that way I can leave room for lights and build it my way. Thanks for all the input guys!

it can be done, but think it would be alot of work. There was an S-10 Blazer for sale on craigslist couple year ago, 80s style, where the guy made the 92-up grille fit. If I remember he cut down the 92 hood and fenders to fit the S-10, looked very good IMO. Anything is possible....

I think the hardest part would be cutting the fender to fit the turn signal/running lights, what if you cut the grill at the outside and moved them to the inside??? excuse my paint chopping lol.

Or you could just use the turn signals on the inside of the grill from the earlier 80's style instead. Then I think you could cut the newer grill to fit pretty nice.

It's cool to want to do something different. It's even cooler to do what ever it takes to make something different. I was just answering this:
...I want to upgrade to like a 92-98 style front end. Possible? What all is needed? Core support and everything in front of it? How's the fit to the fenders?
The fenders won't fit and neither will the core support. I'd like to see you do it. Anything can be done when the desire is there.
