i recently bought a well taken care of 1989 f150 4x4 swb 300 i6/5 speed & started driving it fairly often..i would say daily driver but i dont leave home daily,,more like twice a week driver, but i put a good set of tires on it & theres no rattles or shakes just under 100k miles..i think im starting to like the old ford...the 300 6cyl has alot of torque starts right up, it is efi & i like the gearing with the 5 speed...its making me think i may want to attempt a 6 speed in my chevy build...it sure is fun rowing thru those gears & creeping the parking lots in low...& definitly stopping for gas less since parking the 96 tahoe..i feel bad since i have a yard full of non running chevy projects:doah:....any cures...:dunno:

I'm a pretty hardcore GM guy, but there is definitely something to that Ford 300 six, especially when it's hooked up to a manual tranny. Insofar as straight sixes go, I really dig 'em. They're nearly indestructible, get decent mileage and have some serious low-end grunt. Plus, Ford built them for 30 years and put them in everything, so parts are plentiful. Don't feel bad about liking them, or the trucks they came in.

My buddy still speaks fondly about the '81 Bronco he had in college (with the 300 and a 4 speed) that got him through five Michigan winters in the UP, and that truck has been gone for nearly 20 years now.

Look, it could be worse. You could have a yard full of (non-running) Fiats.

Sounds like you are overcommitted to projects that you really don't have time / money for. At first it seems fun to line up a bunch of "projects" but eventually (at least on a subconscious level) you realize that there is no way they are all going to get finished. The temptation then becomes to buy something that runs that you can actually enjoy... Even if it's a Ford. :haha:

Pick the project truck you love the most, and sell off the rest. They are like an albatross around your neck at this point..... Once they are gone you'll be amazed at how much more focused you will be and having the extra cash will allow you to make faster progress on your build.

Drop a couple of axles in the bed. Hook up a trailer with two of the projects on it and drive it 1200 miles. :D That should cure ya or get rid of you to ford forums.:haha:

I will say the F-150 is one of the best in class. Much better that toyotas, nissans, and ridgelines in the 1/2 ton catagories. I just don't like double the price for parts and they put everything backwards in those things (dizzy up front???) But if its heavy hauln' then I will stick to my chevys and dodges. IMHO.

Oh and you know fords circle the problem on the grill right.

Those are GREAT trucks. I've got an 83 with 3.73'd 02 Superduty axles and a 351W / C-6 drive train. 15mpg all day long and rock solid.

It's been rolled and the doors still shut right.

Until you hit a mud or water hole and the fan helps the water to pressure soak it. Had trouble with it in the past, when I was you and dumb. Now I am just dumb.

The older Ford 4x4s with the 300 I-6 and a manual trans,or a C-6,is about the only truck with the blue oval on the grill I'd want to own...great engines ,and they will give decent mpg with EFI,and have good low end torque...I've noticed Fords dont seem to ROT as fast or as extensively as GM trucks do around here too....but they can bite you hard at the parts counter!..............................................................................................Fords always seem to have 3 choices of parts in any given year,and if you dont have a production date,often you'll have to special order all 3 parts until you get the right one--and walk for a couple days till they come in!..:doah:..

Dizzy up front would be SO MUCH BETTER IN EVERYTHING!!!

especially when its an HEI....:thumb::woot:

I think when your projects have been lawn ornaments long enough, any truck you climb into and get to drive seems like heaven. Not unlike the 1973 disaster I drove a while back and almost bought, including spitting out the rear driveshaft after 15 feet. My test drive was on the front axle with the rear driveshaft removed, and I absolutely LOVED it. The near miss on buying it I attribute strongly to the Griz sitting idle in the driveway for so long, and just missing being in a truck.

basically you're going through the "horseface killer" mindset. thus named for one of my pledge brothers who hadn't gotten laid in over a year, and wound up hooking up with a brutally ugly chick just to get some action. I try not to judge you for your blue oval scandal :whistle:
