I scored four H1's with 37" MT's still mounted, in a small town in Oklahoma this past weekend for the measly sum of $300.

Upon loading the tires/rims onto the back of the truck, I was quite suprised at the weight of the tire/rim. I had never picked one of these up before nor read or heard of how much the mag runflats weigh.

My question is; how much are the mag RF's weight? I guesstimated the combo to be at least over 150 lbs. when loading them.

Next question is removing the RF's from the rims. I've read tons and tons of info and how-to's here and there but still don't quite understand clearly on how to do so. Pictures would be better to show how its done. I've been wondering why everyone does cutting, torching, plasma, etc., to the RF's and then wonder how were they mounted on the rims to begin with? If its a simple nut and bolt, can't you just simply remove them the reverse way they were installed?

Teach me on the removal of the mag RF's. I don't wanna keep that heavy crap in there. I'd also like to look into PVC RF's like what USA 6x6 sells but I'd rather not do business with them. Anyone else offer them?

Check out the "build pics" link in my sig for some rim / runflat pics. Keep in mind, the runflats in the pics are already cut so a fair amount of material is gone. As for the weight of the runflat, maybe 2 lbs per assembly. Since they are made of magnesium they weigh nothing, it's the wheel that's miserably heavy - 55 lbs each I believe.

There are pvc and metal frame alternatives to the mag runflats but I doubt any are actually lighter. See the Pirate vendor forum for pics and such.

I agree the weight is in the wheels and tires, my 38's and 12 bolts must be close to 180. I wouldn't bother getting pvc runflats if you already have the mags, just cut them down and be done with it. As for how to cut them down people have proven that they will not spontaneously combust if you cut them with a torch, so that would probably be the easiest way, maybe a bandsaw. I am pretty sure to get them out of the wheel you just unbolt the 2 halves and wrestle the tire off the wheel and pull out the rf, at least thats how I got my pvcs in and out

So after someone asked my what my wheel & tire combo weighed I started to wonder. I guessed a little over 100 lbs. If my scale is right I was way off.

Specs: 12b H1s, rubber runflats, 39" TSLs= 163 lbs!

Wes with the 37s I assume you got the the 12B H1s. If that is correct the runflats are rubber Hutchenson ones.

Yep, got the 12 bolts. Should I just leave the RF's alone? If they don't weigh that much, why bother with removing them and taking a chance on leaking rims? They hold air just fine right now.

there's no way a 12 bolt H1 weigh's 55 pounds... I can carry two of them easily (no tire, just wheel) and i'm a tall skinny dude who sits behind a desk all day...

They are right about that. IIRC my bathroom scale said 53 lbs.

You must be stronger then you think:wink1:. I am also a tall skinny dude and I struggle to carry 2 at once.

I think there are two kinds of 12-bolt wheels and the one with the 3***lbs rating stamped to them are the heavy ones ;)

yea 12b rims + big tires = lots of weight. its a pain picking up my 12b's with 42's

I'd just leave them alone. You don't have quite the pinching issue with the rubber ones. I'd love to get a "just the beadlock" rubber insert like Hutchinson makes for the aluminum wheels, but I don't know if they make them in a 16.5. Last time I checked it was only 16 and 17 inch.

man i hate to think how much my 44s and 8 bolts weight but they are super heavy...

I was curious so I looked on Interco's site for tires weights earlier -

H1 + 42 TSL = 160 lbs

H1 + 44 TSL = 175 lbs

ouch... :eek1:

It took hours out of my life but I used a sawsall. Lightened them up pretty good. I took a weight before and afterbut I forget what the dif was.

BTW I learned of a trick from dude on TOR about using thick conveyor belt bolted together for the beadlock. I'ld like to do this but i got what I got.

I dont know what my 12bolts with 42Iroks weigh, But I will tell you that we move the truck up and down on the lift to get the wheels to line up so we dont have to pick them up! Plus Im about to add some rim protectors from DIY... Ill weigh them when I do that :doah:

I'm still lost on what some of you use a sawzall for. All I can see on the halves of the RF's are holes to where a nut and bolt go thru to hold them together? If so, why not just simply unbolt them? If thats not the case, I'm lost. I still don't understand why you guys cut anything here.

They are cutting the runflat portion off of the insert. If you are going to use it as the inside beadlock then you will want to do the same... It looks like a ridge sticking out from the center section.
