H1 questions

Wes, this is the best example. Picture #1 is of the part that's cut off, imagine the parts in that pic on top of my cut run flat pic (#2).

#1 (thanks to Readymix for the pic!)

The end result would look like this T if you were to look at it from end to end (not bead to bead).

Ok, now I get it. I forgot about the mag RF's being "taller" than the pics show. Once I opened up that link and saw the upper part in pieces, then I remembered what makes RF's a runflat.

Makes sense now.

Are you sure you have mag runflats? 12 bolt wheels typically have the rubber type.

I was just curious about the RF's anyways. I'd read about these mag stuff for years on here and other sites and just never understood totally about cutting them.

It was nice to learn that I've got the rubbers instead. I've always wanted the 12 bolts and got lucky on the road trip last weekend. I'm still itching to find a matching D60/70HD but its not looking good right now. I may just pull the D60 I already have and hope to find the 70 soon. Just not sure what gear ratio to use yet as I really have my eyes set on some 42's.

What ratio would you guys run for 42's and an automatic tranny? No Doubler or anything, just an automatic. Truck will be stricly for play.

If it will see any street time, 6.17's. If not, 7.17's. The 7's will whine and my cook anything but the best gear oil.

TVguy had a Dodge with 6.17's and 35 Boggers and Dan Dibble had a pick up with 39's and 7.17's. Neither truck felt like it had crazy gears in it. Don't fear the gear... :D

Im running 456s with 42s and it does ok. I am installing a 203 205 right now and I expect it will do even better. Also remember that I am an east coast guy and dont need a ton of crawl ratio.

Geez, I wasn't expecting 6.17 or 7.17 ratios to be a reply. I was thinking of the 5-series rations. I need to get the gear calculator and do some figuring.

Oh yeah, motor will be a 454 of course.

If I had the option, I would be running 5:13s... I run an eaton rear and finding gears are a pain in the arse... I think anything over that would be way too high.

Ok, maybe I went too far with the 6+ ratios but I will say since it's a trail truck go with more gear than you think you need. I will be running 42's and 5.86's which is not dramatically different proportionately than 35's and 4.56's. On my old K10 I ran 5.13's and 39 Boggers for a couple of years and it was nice, real strong and totally streetable.

Edit: I will say that had I not stumbled on a smoking trade for my current gears I would have gone with atleast a 6.17.

agreed i was running 38.5s and a 700 and i could pass plenty of people on the interstate in od...plus crusing around 70 at about 3200 rpms is always fun :)

im gona run 5.86's in my 60/70hd combo with 350tbi/700r4 with 42's and its gona see more street than trail

that would be awesome to do, id i had a welder i would definitely do it
