Had fun today on the side of the Freeway 35\" blow-out.....

This post is a little long but well worth the reading.... Drivers front tire /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gifblew /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif while I was doing about 70 mph today. What an afternoon.... 12:20 blew out an almost new 35" tire at 101 between Indian Bend and Pima Rd.... Well last week I pulled my Hi-Lift Jack out of the K-5 to haul some stuff and didn't stick it back in /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif..... So we called AAA to come change the tire.... The dispatcher sent the tow truck just north of Indian School..... Found that out on my second call to AAA at 1:10....They'll send the Tow Truck right over, should take 20 min.... 1:50 the tow truck pulls up to change the tire, so I go to get the wheel lock key... Well I couldn't find it /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif, so send the Tow Truck away and call my sister to come get me so I can go home and find it....I didn't find it at home, so I call my a friend that owns a Tahoe to see if I can barrow it to pull the trailer home, that is hooked up to my truck... Call AAA again at 3:30 to tow my truck home.... Wait for about another 45 min. and here he is.... So he starts to hook up and wham /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif..... Some guy said he was looking over to see what was going on with the tow truck and he lost control and ran into the car beside him.... So I run down the freeway to see if everyone is alright.... Parametics, Highway Patrol, Fire Department get there and they don't need me anymore, so I go back to my K-5 and the Tow Truck Driver was having problems get my baby on the flat bed due to the blow out.....So I give him a had steering the K-5 on the tow truck..... So here we go home and it's 4:45....... Finally get it home and look at the damage to the inner fender well bent up, front brake line rubber all ripped off, rim flattened from the ground (Alum. doesn't like asfalt), and of course the tire... What a day..... I'll try to post pic's tomarrow.....

Yes I have Warrenty.... First Big I Big Foot I've blown out and I've ran them for since '87 (not the same set, but great warrenty).

You and Jay. Must be somethin about our roads. Maybe I won't drive Ole Wimpy for a fews days until this wave of flat tires passes by. Can you get the wheel paid for as well as the tire? Just a thought.

Man, whats with all the tire blowouts. I'm surprised I made it over 500 miles yesterday with some side-cuts in one of mine.

Too bad about the damage.

I going to try and get the to fix the brake line, replace tire and rim..... The tread on all my tire are great... it was the tire that gave way....

You could've used some Vise Grips to get that "locking" lug nut off. I've found it's the true universal locking lug nut key....

I tried the V-grips and couldn't get them that way.... But I tried...... Came home and found the key in about 10 more min. of looking...

I had a blowout today myself. One of my 35/12.5/16.5 BFG M/T's on the left front exploded with a mighty POW! Luckily, I was only doing about 20 miles an hour at the time, and the tire did not completely drop on the rim, but only through off half of its tread. Even though it had more than 50% tread left on the tires, it was not a surprise because the tires were dry rotted out from sitting in the hot Las Vegas sun for the last five years. I just purchased this truck about a month ago, and the previous owner let the thing just set in his driveway for about the last two years with out driving it.

Well the latest new on this is I stopped at a body shop today to get an estamite for the repairs of the front fender, inner fender, and the brake line, paint and everything a whopping $843.61, I need to get two more estamites before they will pay for it..... Didn't know that it would be that much but we'll see what the other two say.

what was driving distance that trip? speed?
what was temperature?

very impressive to get the entire tread surface to debond
I have blown a lot of semi tires and only retreads usually come apart like that

I had two of my trailer tires do the exact same thing on the way to New Mexico a few weeks ago. Tread stayed intact and seperated at the point of the sidewall. Long trip, driving fast, and hot, though.

I used to really like Big O tires but quit buying them because I know a few diferent people who have had similar problems as you with their Big O Big foot AT tires blowing out/tread seperation.
I heard they get their AT tires from Firestone so maby that explaines it.

I've been running Big O's for bout 18 years now and this is the first problem I've had..... Cann't stop just because of one...... That was my only Big Foot AT the other 4 are Big Foot XT..... I paid the difference between the two and now have all Big Foot XT's (full size spare)
