hansen trays

All my sockets fit just fine on my HF ones. My only gripe was the couple skipped sizes on the larger 1/2 drive stuff. Everything else is there and fits fine. Had to clip the posts off a few because they were too thick, other than that Id buy em again.

I have all 6 Hansen trays in the top of my road box, had to shave some of the ends and sides but they all fit tight. Still have many steel rails as well, with various swivels and hex drives and misc stuff still.

I'm strongly considering going to plastic hard socket cases for my bag stuff.. or maybe even Mac metal trays... or getting my sockets out of the bags altogether...

socket rails in bags don't live a happy life.. the metal ones don't stand a chance, they get all twisted, etc... magnet trays don't work for obvious reason.. the best by far have been the expensive snap on quick releases.. but even those, after time in the salt air, smashing around in a bag, etc start to have clip/ball failures too..

i've actually been shopping old school cantalever boxes, even the snappy carry around with 2 drawers, etc, to just carry socket stuff in the 3 drives..

my screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, meters, etc can all continue living in bags, but the sockets probably need to get back into a small, carryable, box of some sort..

i actually have the small blue point 2 drawer metal box, but it became a flood rusty victim..

Thought I would share a pic of mine:

Portable socket storage is a tough one.

My truck set still rides in the sears blow mold case. That would never survive your line of work.

But, its done alright for me, with all sorts of foam added inside to keep stuff from shifting.

yeah, the Snappy blow molded plastic cases hold up well, and hold sockets great, and work ok being stuffed in a bag and tossed around in/on boats..

but what eventually fails is the fold over latch on any of em.. plus, your at the whim of that set designer..

i've always been curious to try out some of the mac metal trays.. but the concern there is, in a bag the lever gets opened and all the sockets fall out..

the bags with the quick release rails is "ok". i've been running em like that for almost a decade now.. it's just i'm at the point now where the quick releases need a few clips replaced, etc...

i ran a metal carry all with a single tray in it 20 yrs ago and did ok.. I just now have 10x's the tools... :doah: :haha:

All my plastic cases with external plastic latches have a duct tape "secondary latch" Flap over them, so they don't open. :haha:

Another use for duct tape. The stuff is god like lol! Hell I bet god uses it too. :D :haha:

I have a full set of hansen socket trays metric and std, for regular sockets and some more for impact sockets. They work well and make it easy to see if you are missing a socket when done for the day. They have extra slots for some sizes that only snappie makes, etc. Which is a lot better than missing slots. Also, the hansen sets are Made in WI, USA. I would bet the hazard fraught versions are made in China or something. They copied them.

My Uncle developed and patented those. I still have some of the originals that were molded in Rockford, IL with the Folk products packaging from my uncle. He was getting paid royalties for a while but now the deal has ran out so now it's all Hansen. I remember how much work and how many years it took him before they really took off, but when they finally did, it was pretty big.

I have ten of them in the top drawer of my box.

I apologize for the crappy photo.

I also found this picture when I was looking for that one. This is the day my new box showed up at work, and I was transferring tools between the two.

Another crappy picture of my Snap On box.

nice.. I have basically the same rig in red, except I have the top box, not the work station... been a LONG time since I was able to actually "work" out of my box, as opposed to using it as some distant storage locker... :haha:

I have a sneaky suspicion tho, my Snappy box won't be leaving my house garage again.. so i think a full set of the Hansen's are in my near future as a long term solution..
