Has anyone used RAM mounts (for comm. radios)?

It looks like most of their products are catered for GPS/smartphone-sized devices... however they say their standard 1" ball mounts are good for up to 5 lbs, and the 1.5" mounts for up to 10 lbs.

I want to create a couple radio mounts that will allow me to move 2-3 radios between the house, truck, and mustang without much heartache.

Any idea if these things will do a decent job of securing a 3-4lb radio?

RAM mounts are probably the best adjustable mounting system I've even seen. If you've ever tried to build a mounting system you know how difficult it is to make it hold still and not shake. I have only seen the laptop ones, but all of the balls, clamps, etc. are the same. The prices are pretty high but the quality probably justifies it.

I use a gps one in my off road truck after my gps getting tossed around the cab numerous times. I'm not putting the weight you are, but if I was these are what I'd go with. Check on ebay, I found a used bracket pretty cheap. The universal flat piece is nice because its easy to modify.

I've been running one RAM-B-111 mount in the pickup, and swapping out my 50 MHz and 28 MHz radios in it.

It's held great thus far, and I love the interchangeability. I ordered two more RAM-B-111 mounts to put in the Mustang, and one window suction mount to swap between the two vehicles.

Now I'll easily be able to move my 144 MHz, 50 MHz, and 28 MHz radios between the two vehicles with out having to unbolt a bunch of stuff!

We use them at work for our entire fleet. We use them for Laptops. they work very well.

I like their modularity, and the mounts are suprisingly secure.

I can order longer or shorter arms if I want them, alternate mounting bases, and mounting brackets (in case say I want to put my GPS in one of my radio mounts).

I also dig the metal construction. They do sell some plastic stuff, but the majority of their products are metal. I use 3-4 self-tapping machine screws to hold the base down. With the "111" style universal mount, I can bolt just about anything to it!

AGCO runs these mounts in all there farm equipment they hold up some fairly large gps units and we never had a prob with them pretty well built stuff.

We use those at work, they are pretty solid if you get the right size.

When we bought our new corn planter it came with a RAM bracket to hold the 10in. control monitor. Very good quality.
