having a problem with my front shock mounts

i have factory quad shocks and im putting the front shocks on. the problem is that the inside shock mount is too narrow for the shock with the bushings to fit. i had to widen it with a wrench. then it didnt line up right. then finally all worked out. is this normal? is there an easier way? its really getting on my last nerve.

Kinda normal, the shock bracket got collapsed from tightening the shock bolt. Sometimes you need to widen the bracket as you've done. Also not every shock has the same length sleeve or the same width bushing installed which could combine your problem.
