Having trouble adjusting my ball

Joint adjustment sleeve on the passenger side. I began by torquing the Lower ball joint to 30 ft pound. Next I installed the sleeve for the upper ball joint and torqued to 50 foot pounds. My problem is the sleeve does not seat all the way in so the upper ball joint castle nut can't be put on.

Any advice? Thanks

I dont know if it helps, but i have always ran the sleeve down to about where it should be and then installed the knuckle and gone from there. Lots of possibilities unfortunately. From defective ball joints, sleeve, tweaked inner C or knuckle itself.
 
Ok, I was following instructions to put sleeve in after. I'll try putting it in first but I feel like this may leave my lower ball joint hanging low. The knuckle is a new Reid knuckle so hopefully no problems there.
 
Ok I can get it to sit in like that. But now I can see some of the lower shaft for the ball joint when snugged up. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361503379.012200.jpg

Oye... Looks like this is going to be a tough one to figure out. Its got to be either one of the ball joints is made wrong, or the knuckle. Do you have the original knuckle to take comparison measurements?
 
Chuck the old knuckle on there...if it all works I'd say the prob is with the knuckle. If the problem is similar the prob is with the BJ's.
 
Are you saying I should swap my new ball joints to the old knuckle? I don't have the technology. I had the new ball joints pressed in at a shop. I'm going to crossover so I don't really have a knuckle choice in the long run.
 
No. Your old knuckle still has the old ball joints in it right? Put it up on there and see if it goes together like it should. If it does, your problem is either your new knuckle, or one of your new ball joints. If it doesnt, its probably either your adjuster sleeve, or your inner c is mucked up.
 
Ok I'll give that a try thanks. At this point I won't be able to get back at it until sunday. I'll let you guys know what I find out.
 
Are the ball joints fully seated? The snap ring on the bottom of the bottom joint should be flush with the knuckle surface. You may be able to snug it up with a hammer. Same thing on top, the ball joint needs to be all the way down. The shop probably used a giant press, but it's always possible there was a burr or piece of debris they didn't notice and it's not quite together.

What are these knuckles? If you need to adjust the ball joints you can buy the press from Harbor Freight for like $50 or get one on the loan-a-tool program at Advanced, AutoZone, etc.
 
Its a reid knuckle for a corp 10. They look completely seated. The snap ring is flush.

I should get the right tools for ball joints, but I just don't change them that often. I haven't ever done a 4wd set and I have done two rwd ball joint sets in my life.
 
If it's a new knuckle, call Reid or call the vendor. If your old knuckle fit fine, then that almost rules out a bent "C". I thought all of these Dana 44 knuckles were interchangable (for mating with the "C" anyway), but it's possible there is more than one part.

Here's a new thought. Are the ball joints all the same? Maybe you have the wrong part number for ball joints. Any chance you got 2 uppers or 2 lowers in that knuckle? Or swapped them top to bottom? I can't remember if that's possible.
 
I don't know why I wrote dana 44 its for a 10 bolt. I'm not fully functioning yet this morning.

I think they may be the same anyways
 
The new ball joint shaft is a 1/4 inch longer. I have to bring it back to the shop and have them fix it.
