Been lurking here awhile and thought I’d introduce my rig

Stationed on Oahu in 2016. Purchased it off a sailer who bought it for his son, but decided to go Land Rover route instead. Paid way more than it was worth but hey, not many blazers out here. Truck was purchased new in Honolulu in ‘91 and has been on island ever since. I’m the 5th owner, although I’m have no idea who installed the 8.1 or when.

Came with the following modifications:

2003 Chevy 8.1 / 4L85 out of a Yukon 2500xl
NP241C w/ SLE
Dana 14B FF w/ 5.13 gears + Detroit locker + Eldorado disk conversion
Dana 60 front with 4.10 gears
2” block + 4”shackles flip rear / pro comp 6” springs front
cross over steering/ high steer

Became quite the project:

Starting issues (ground problems)
Radiator fans that ate radiators
Death wobble x 10
Wiring harness from hell itself
Rust

Between work obligations, I was able to chip away at everything slowly getting it road worthy all the while it being my daily driver.

Rebuilt the D60 outers
Cleaned up wiring
Installed BDS 6” springs
Installed ORD FUSH
New radiator
New 37x12.50 pro comp muddys to replace the worn out set of Goodyear Kevlar MTRs
...And a multitude of other small discrepancies I have since forgotten

Recently found out I’m going to San Diego, so spent the last few weeks scrambling to make this hunk pass the pre-ship inspection. Just dropped it off at the VPC, finally on its way to mainland soil.

Future plans: Find a California body with no island rot, install the 5.13 gears up front + E-locker and then wheel the hell outta it (not necessarily in that order)

Cool but i would leave it in Hawaii. your going to have a hell of a time registering it here in California. plus since you already want to swap bodies just get a complete K5 here. you will be way ahead

Gunna be registered out of state in CT, I’d consider it if it weren’t for the time + $$ invested in the drivetrain

Looks like Pearl city in the background. I agree about leaving it if being registered in Cali, but you said it'll be CT.You should be fine

Swapping the front Dana 60 gear (5.13) would be first on my list!

It certainly is, unfortunately the terrain I had access to in Hawaii didn't necessitate it as it saw 90% highway miles. Hopefully the penny jar is full enough for that e-locker while it’s open

welcome my braddah! Some of us trying to make it from San Diego to Hawaii

If you need help with Reg, let me know what part of San Diego you are in and I can steer you to the right places

If you are still on the island, I would sell it before leaving for maximum dollars and start over in the states.

Vehicle market out here is odd as there’s actually a surplus since everyone ships them out here and then leaves them when they return to the mainland. Not much interest for a K5 with a built drivetrain but rusted out body
4Runners/Tacos/Tundras are the only ones worth big $$$
