Who makes the best HD bumpers for the blazers now. My plan when I started my project several years ago was to buy the one I really liked from 4x4 Armor but now that I am almost ready it seems they are out of buisness. Does anyone know what happened to them and is anyone else making the style of bumpers they were making? I need to be able to install a winch in the front and I want a tire rack built on the back bumper like 4x4 Armor made to be able to handle a 36 to 38 in. tire. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

don't think jesse was taking any more orders...

DIY4X, ORD, couple newer vendors, hefty fabworks, twizted engineering...

yea jesse isnt taking any more orders. might can try waiting for a used one to pop up if your have time

I hate to hear that, I really liked his bumpers. They seem to be just what I was looking for. I don't understand why you would make a great bumper and then hurt people that give you buisness and give you their hard earned cash.

From what I heard he made an excellent bumper but he was a one man show and got behind on orders and had taken deposits from people then ended up "closing shop" and never returning anyones money.

How long ago was this? I am sure glad I didn't send a deposit. Is this style of bumper too heavy for the blazer and does anyone know how much lift you lose when using a hd bumper with a 10,000 # winch?

He has been out of business for at least 4 years or so IIRC.

Too heavy for a blazer, you're kidding right? Actually, I built my own front and rear bumper and between the two my blazer only weighs an extra 220 lbs. That's not bad considering I uded .250" tube and then capped the bottom and ends with .375" flatbar. My rear bumber also has a tire carrier and a jerry can holder.

I want to install a 10,000# winch. I have installed a dana 60 front axle and a 14 ff rear with a 4" easy ride front springs and a ORD shackle flip with the factory springs in rear with 0 rate ORD add a leaf with 1"ORD body lift. This should give me about 5 1/2 to 6 in lift with the larger od of the 1 ton axles. I wanted to run 37 to 38 in tires and with a heavy front bumper and winch I'm afraid the tires will rub and I really don't want to hack away alot of my fenders. What do you think?

An HD bumper will not drop the truck any noticeable distance that would cause tires to rub.

I noticed that you run 8" of lift with 35" tires. I was told to install 5.13 gears due to my 700R4 so I did. So I want to run at least a 37" tire. Is there a reason why you run 35's with an 8" lift? I'm not sure what is the right size tire to order.

I actually have a 6" spring up front along with the D60 which added another 3/4" and then the rear I have a 4" ORD shackle flip and a 4" Superlift spring. I can and have stuffed the front tires into the rear of the fenders. I do not want a larger tire than a 35" but if I did I would have to either cut ALOT of fender or move the axle forward to keep the larger tire out of the fender. I wished I had installed 5.13's as the 4.56's aren't enough gear with 35" and a 700R4 IMO as the slightest grade and the trans is hunting between 3rd and OD.

Low gears in the axles put less stress on the trans and mean that the OD gear is actually usable. At some point the gears can become so low that you sacrifice some mileage but, from the experience of basically everyone with any kind of lifted 4WD with bigger than stock tires, lower gears are better. The truck will move itself better, the trans will run cooler and last longer and it will generally be a better experience all around. Maybe you sacrifice a MPG or two, that's really doing to happen when you lift the truck and put bigger tires on it anyway.

As for lift to tire size, depends on what you want to do with the truck and if you're willing to trim the fenders. VERY typical for a 4" lift to work well with 35-37" tires but you will need to trim. You really need to lift the truck a LOT if you don't want to trim.

Have you cut any off either the front or rear fenders? I did mive my rear axle back 1 1/2" with the off set on the ORD zero rate add a leaf. I dont know how you would move the front axle forward. I guess I better stick to no more than a 36" tire. I am building this blazer for a hunting rig where I hunt on 39,000 ac of river bottom land on the RED RIVER.

First, please specify who you are addressing regarding your question (no offense intended but it helps us understand what you're asking).

IME, anything over a 33" won't really fit in the stock wheel well. Yeah, you can lift it more or whatever but if the suspension has any flex you will have to trim the fenders if you want tires bigger than that.

As for moving axles, you don't want to move the front axle forward without crossover steering. The stock draglink is marginal in stock form, any more flex than stock shows how crappy that steering setup is. Moving the front axle forward makes the draglink even shorter which exaggerates that problem.

You can fit 36's but you'll be pushing the stock axles and you'll have to trim the fenders.

Sorry for not addressing but not sure how except putting your user name. I'm kinda new at this. Thanks for the input 38377k5. I did install 1 ton axles so I could run a larger tire without putting too much strain on them. I don't mind trimming the fenders but don't have any guidelines on how it's done or what line to follow. Where I hunt the ruts get pretty deep toward the end of hunting season so I wanted to run about a 37 to 38 in tire but not wider than around 10 to 12 inches. Does anyone have any blueprints on trimming the fenders the proper way?

I was not trying to be a dick, trying to help, sometimes the internet makes that tough :thumb:

There are many varying levels of cutting the fenders, I simply cut the rust out of mine and fit 37's easily with a 4" lift.
