header heat question

everyone knows that header heat causes premature starter loss sooo....

instead of taking the headers off and wrapping them with the heat tape
why not wrap the starter, this would accomplish the same thing no?

Better off with a heatshield, or better yet, just get a mini...

I don't think I'd wrap the starter. The motor generates a lot of heat itself and a wrap would hold the heat inside. A good shield usually works well and still allows the starter to cool.

seriously, a gear reduction starter is a wise investment and not all that expensive...

You can get a replacement " HI-HEAT" solenoid and your problems are solved. You can get them from Reiman Auto Electric out of Seattle,for around $20.

I was getting bad heat soak problems even with a heat reflective blanket around the starter so I got a remote solonoid kit from Summit and have never had a problem since.
Waiting around for half an hour or more for your rig to fire up sucks!

I'm running the remote solenoid as well...............no heat related problems!

Ive fried 3 or 4 starters offroad. Each one was very hot and gunked over with mud. So soon im going remote starter...
