header hitting bump stop bracket

WTF! Go out, get a little motivation, so I start working on the rig. Get some of the march PS bracket on, loosen up all the rockers so I can readjust them later, then start on the headers. Since the passenger side is easier to get to, I start there. Then I run into this!

Anyone ever have this problem before?

What is it hitting? When I put mine on, I had to shave about a 1/4 inch off of the bottom of the frame rail cause they were hitting.

I unbolted that bracket and threw it in the trash, especially if you are going to put in any kind of lift you won't need that any more. If you get rid of it your truck will be lighter and you will get better gas mileage.

As an update, pulled the bracket, headers went right in, also nothing was blocking the driverside, just the pass.

Are those Hedman 69830's? If so, I have heard of shifter linkage trouble. Though I seem to remember you using a floor shfter. Anyways , if you use the stock shifter, do you think clearance would be an issue?

yep, their the 69830`s. I`ll see if I can find the original linkages for the column shifter, and see if it looks like there`s any clearance issues. IIRC, it was the trucks with the manual transmissions that had the issues...

Yes, get rid of that POS bracket. Don't know what the engineers were thinking when they designed that thing.

Curious as to how you will deal with either a Y pipe or getting the exhaust past the passenger side at the transfer case.

Um, can you take a picture of the bracket you just unbolted. Your first picture is too shaded for me to tell what the damn thing is. I’ve never seen one and I’m curious on what the bracket looks like. Is this something GM put on during the mid eighties or something?

I think it's a pinion snubber for the front diff. IIRC it contacts the flat pad on the center section, IF you stuff the front diff that far.

I also seem to think that it was only originally on diesels, but I don't know for sure. It was discussed awhile back.
