I was looking at the Jegs full length Headers. they mentioned that they will not fit if there is a air pump feeding a catlytic converter. I am not sure that i have one or not. I have a 1983 K5 Blazer 4x4.

Anyone have any input on this? If so what headers is everyone else using? I need to get an exhaust on and figured might as well go with headers while I am at it.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

You probably have an air pump that feeds into the exhaust manifolds. It would be a little accessory below the alternator with some hoses going into it. Most people will change this setup when they put headers on. There are headers with fittings for air pumps, but I don't know for sure if there are some to fit a K5 or not.

If I were to remove the Air pump connected would there be any issues with the system? I am not planning on putting in cats on the dual exhaust. (i'm in Texas. Not much as far as emissions laws here.

No it won't cause a problem. One of the first things any of my buddies or I do to a truck we buy is cut the belt to the smog pump. Also if you still have all of the emissions stuff on there and you are going to put headers on which will make it exhale better and getting rid of the pump you might as will get a new intake manifold as it will help you engine inhale better and you will lose some weight up front with a new aluminum manifold.

i h ave been thinking that too. Just only have the dough for the exhaust right now. But it should be on in a few months. (hopefullY)

Now question about this air injection. Was it standard on the 1983 Blazer with the 350? or just the 305? I don't mind ripping it all out but I am curious. Anyone got a pic of what one looks like?

Putting on the headers without the pump lines is fine. I did that on my 85 3/4 ton 350 and it ran fine. Only problem is, that if you have emissions with the "visual inspection" you will fail. If you dont have emissions, run headers and mufflers. Drop the cat and go dual.
You will see the lines on the stock exhaust manifolds. About a few inches from the flange connecting to the heads, there will be a metal(if I remember right) line going into a tapped hole on the manifold sticking staight out. 1 for each cylinder

Hmm i will have to check on that here. I am sure that there is SOME place that will pass it. There are a lot of mom and pop places here. Pretty close to being a country town.

As long as they dont look for it your fine. The only ones here that check are state run. Yet again, I just tested my Blazer and they didnt even look at anything. You will like the sound of the dual with headers. Much nicer:bow:

Plus you should get a little better performance and better gas mileage without the pump. Take it off the truck if you can. Damn thing is heavy
