I don't need one but I might have found a $200 6 lug 14SF. WOULD make a nice swap if it's open like the guy says and with 3.73's it'd match my front axle...sigh...:doah::haha:

So what all is necessary to swap one in?

-Spring perch and shock mount relocation.

-Conversion U-joint.

-Wider U-bolts.

-What do you do with the parking brake cables? I'd likely leave it drums and want to have a parking brake.

-Is there a Powertraxx NoSlip or LockRight for these? I've put one in a Ford 8.8" and would like that option for 14SF if I did go that route.

Really, in 14sf form, i'd be hoping it had a gov lock. They suck in 10bolts, but aren't notoriously as bad in 14 bolt form.

Either way, yes, those things will be needed. not sure on parking brake cables, but i'm sure you can make something work.

For your use, main benefit i see it larger drums.

thats what i got under my jimmy. spring perch, shock mount and a conversion joint. installed about 5 years ago no problem! but never installed parking brake cable!

I'd like to put a manual trans in it so a Parking Brake would be critical.

dhcomp, just not a Gov Lock fan. Seen too many fail, die, and explode. Rather go with a known entity true locker.
I figure I can pay someone to put this Detroit I have for my 10 bolt in and then eventually get some high strength shafts for the 10 bolt as well...but by then I'd probably be up to what this 14SF and the locker would cost me...but I dunno.

Might just try and resell it...

Pick it up then. Just thinking what you are really going to use your truck for, and if a 14sf is necessary. I, like everyone else, tend to spot "upgrades" that everyone swears by on this board, and want to add them to my truck. Sometimes though, its worth stepping back, and asking what you are going to do with your truck, realistically, and see what actually makes sense.

Just a quick sanity check, thats all! Go grab it, even if its to resell!

Guy says he's going to pull the cover and figure out the gearing. Doesn't seem to know what he has but he's also in rural Kentucky sorta in the middle of nowhere. If it's 3.73's or 4.11's I figure it's worth it as an investment alone.

What's one of these things worth in okay-decent usable shape?

My plans for The Blazer haven't changed. Stockish suspension, trimmed fenders, 33's, locker in the rear, backup DD/tugboat/fun toy/easy wheeler/etc. I can't justify a 14FF but a 14SF might be a good upgrade...might...

Around here, they are price a little high. There is not many strong 6 lug axles around. You have the 10, 12, and the 14bsf, and the later is much stronger.
I would say the axle is the second most demanded axle behind the Dana 60 front.
14bff are everywhere but you have change your rims and replace or convert your hubs and brake on you front axle.

the 6 lug 14 bolts (we call them baby 14's) have very large axles.

They are very tough. And work well with an electric locker. there arent many options for the carrier

That would probably cover the shipping. So after I make another $100 on it...

I can't see why you wouldn't want it over a 10b. Size-wise it's like a SF Dana 60. I think I paid $200 just for a new R&P for that axle. The only downside I can think of is that the brakes are a lot more expensive - if having heavier duty brakes can be considered a downside. The gov-lock in mine has been awesome, but the E-locker is an intriguing option for this axle. Figure out how to adapt the H2 version and you can have a selectable for like $400.

I'd just run a full time locker. Loved the couple I've had so far.

I've seen a couple of these around for 200-300 lately. Picked one up a few months ago for my 91 blazer for 150. Seems like a good swap for a mild off road rig. Don't know about the parking brake cable.

Lemme know. Even if I pick it up this is a long term project.

3.42's and it took him all freaking weekend to get back to me AFTER I messaged him. Figured screw it and not going to bother with it. Hour drive each way and not a desirable gear ratio. Too much crap going on now to dink with it.

that sucks, ive hade alot of deals around here fall threw just because the guys take forever or they dont know what they have and advertise something else, drives me crazy lol.

i once drove from georgetown to somerset to get a sm465 that was suppose to be a 4x4 and turned out being out of like a ford with a divorsed transfer case, and was pretty rough anyway, but it was one of those deals you cant pass up if its foreal

Yeah, I thought about trying to get him to explain how he checked and maybe he was doing it wrong...but it wasn't easy just conversing with the guy via email so I said screw it. I have the money but I shouldn't spend it so yeah...

I missed out. I remember a year and a half ago when I first decided to move down here there was some guy in Nicholasville who always had a ton of parts on Craigslist. All kinds of old GM and Ford truck parts. Engines, axles, transmissions, t-cases, body parts, etc etc etc. Now he seems to be gone.

yea i think i remember seeing that ad. there use to be all kinds of old chevys around here but scrap prices went up and everybody started to scrap alot of these old trucks. i seen a crew cab that looked nice with little rust gettin crushed and shredded at the scrap yard.
