*Headsmack* 6 lug 14SF swap questions

At least they still exist down here. Up in Michigan where I used to live there pretty much WEREN'T any older GM's in the yards. Anything that wasn't of the current body style or the one before that was scrapped up there when the scrap prices went up 3 or so years ago. Took me a month to find a passenger side seatbelt for Big Ugly and that was in a yard 2 hours away. Guy was even surprised he had one of the old trucks.

yea i think i remember seeing that ad. there use to be all kinds of old chevys around here but scrap prices went up and everybody started to scrap alot of these old trucks. i seen a crew cab that looked nice with little rust gettin crushed and shredded at the scrap yard.

That's so sad.. =/

I'm glad they at least make re-man parts for our trucks.
Imagine having something beautiful that you cant restore because they all got scrapped. It almost pisses me off.

Talk to some of the OOOOOLD car collectors. Stuff like Auburns, Packards, and Pierce Arrows.

i hate when scrap steel prices go up because like everybody and their brother decides to scrap all the old trucks and cars that were true muscle cars and hotrods and the all steel body trucks and they only get like 500 bucks for it, heck id like to just go sit at the scrap yard when prices are high and just buy some of the trucks that are drug in for scraping

Used to work at a warehouse that had a scrapyard behind it. Sat there one day at break and watched them ruin a few deuce and a halfs, a late 70's F150, an Eaton rearend, and a few other desirable pieces. I did ask and they said once it was THEIRS they weren't allowed to sell anything until it had been destroyed and reprocessed.

I would look for one from a 90's truck so the track widths will match better over the hella narrow rears our trucks have. will kinda be a pinta welding on perches and whatnot though.

This was from a 90's GM.

I thought the IFS Fullsizes had the same WMS as our trucks? I know at least their front and rears are 3" different like ours are.

I could swear I saw some dude put a 80's 10bolt in a 90's truck and the 73-87 10bolt was too narrow, been a few years since that truck got scrapped though. I might be delusional too, never know.

sorry to change subject. yeah nsxxtreme didn,t install cable because i wasn,t sure they would fit the old ones were done. would i need the jimmy ones or the 1992 pickup ?

The 2wd axle has the same width, but the 4wd axle is about 3 inches wider... so it will make the front and rear track about the same in our older trucks.
