On my k5 there's 3 cables coming off the back of the controls. One short one that goes to the floor/defrost vent. Second one goes to the hot/cold flap. Where's the third one go? There's no where to hook it to. I think this control came out of another truck

Is the heater head for AC, or not? If not, does it have "off" marked on the vertical lever, AND on one of the horizontal levers? If so, it's the control head for the heavy duty heater option.

I was goofing around with mine awhile back (HD heater), trying to figure out why they used three cables. When in the off position (and the fan on) the heater box vents air under the dash, that's what the third cable controls.

I have no idea what the heck the point of that could possibly be. It's not routed anywhere.

yeah the speed switch has a off on it. and im pretty sure it does have off all the way to the lift of the defrost/floor switch but cant really remember off hand. its really not important what the third one does im just kinda curious as everything works...

Yep, heavy duty heater control head.

The "third" cable is doubled up on I believe the "heater/defrost" control. On the heater/defrost side of the lever the blend door is moved with one cable. Once you move past "heater" towards "off" the heater box vent starts to open up via the other cable, and in the lever "off" position if the heater switch is still on, the hot air is bled off under the dash.

That may be why they designed it that way, so if you didn't want so much hot air blowing on your feet you could put the lever somewhere between heater and off, much like putting it between heater and defrost.
