Has any one out there installed that harness from LMC, page 166 in catalog #CC.51. Supposed to help brighten up your lights. More direct power supposedly.

DON'T buy it from LMC cause you can do it yourself for less than $15.00 Do a search on this site, that is how I found it. If you don't come up with anything I can give you a run down of parts with some pics a little later.

Ive never seen the kit your refering to but a common setup and one that has worked well on my Ducati E900 and sold in a kit , simply use`s the factory hot lead to the bulb as the 12v supply to a relay or Ford type solenoids exciter coil or "'switch power" terminal. Then use heavy gauge leads to actually wire (10ga or?)the headlights and fused power directly from the battery. The stock system on the Elefant Ducatis which is small gauge wire is so bad the wiring and plugs typically melt from amp draw and resistance. After doing this on mine the low beam went from a dull yellowish beam to a white bright blast.

I did that harness and two new style headlamps. The combination was an INCREDIBLE difference.

I used their harness because I didn't want to f' with it.

There is no reason to buy it if you have the time and desire to build one. Building one yourself is very easy. I didn't want to mess with building it.

To answer your original question - either buying or building - it will significantly help you see at night. There is a considerable voltage loss through the factory harness. This takes power directly from the battery through the relays. Very well worth the upgrade.

I did the DIY trick to my k5 and it did tremedous wonders to the lighting, would recommend it for everyone. But my question now it, will this work for say a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am? The lights on my wifes car sucks donkeyballs and want to do something about it.

Any tips or tricks with the baby quads on our trucks? I want to do this mod but I am way to cautious..

More than likely. Figure newer cars especially are gonna cheap out and have thin wires ... newer at least means they're less corroded than our 30 year old ones though =))

Check the voltage at the bulbs with a DVM (with the engine idling, say) and then at the battery. If there's more than .1, maaaaybe .2V difference, you need new wires -- and the relays make it easy.

Wow, thanks for all the input. I have an 82 K30 with the single headlight on each side so this ought to help alot. Now, do the headlights seem to burn out more frequently with the extra juice going to them? Thanks again to all of you!!

Nah; I think you'll seem more failure due to mechanical stresses than electrical.

Cool !! Iwould have still done it any way, Seeing in the dark is more important than spending a little more on headlights every once in awhile, especially with all the deer on the roads around here.
