Hedman hedders hit!!! UPDATE: found a set that fits (part number inside)

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

According to hedmans site, 69890 and 69090 are the same piece, just uncoated in the 69090 case.

So they aren't wrong, they just don't fit perfectly. Raising them up about 4" would be perfect to mate up to the stock exhaust routing in my case, had to come up with an angled piece to make them work.

I just sent them back today, I'm getting another set of Hedman's but they're a shorter versoin. My buddy is running them and they fit fine but the tubes are a lot shorter which I'm not too excited about but they will work /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

i do not like shortys and i hate the way long headers hand below the frame i was going to buy a cheap set off ebay (used 10 bucks buy it now 20 i forgot i dont do ebay much anymore too much money)
i was thinlking to cutting out 5 inchs or so out fo each tube to rase it up, that why i wanted a cheap set, might work. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

Hooker Headers part no. 2453 fit my 'Burb like a glove....

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

Same problem I just run it. I figure if it breaks through I'll weld it. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

the cheapy flotechs and blackjacks fit way better than hedmans i have found, same number headers for 2wd and 4x4 63-87 i know, i put a set from my stepdads 82 k10 onto my 68 2wd and they fit just as well on the 68 as they did on the k10

same headers, no difference

4x2 and 4x4 both

no dinging or denting needed, they never hit or rubbed anything anywhere on either truck, at all
on the 73-up 2wd's you do have to modify the auto trans X member you have to remove that lower angle brace at the end of the X member, rmeove it and modify the underside of the main part of the x member where the header collector pipe will be sp it will clear, its alot to rmeove but the x member is tuff enough to run without the angle brace piece, torch does quick work of x member trimming for headers on 2wd trucks

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

My Hedmann's were supposed to be for an IROC Camaro, they fit fine except I had to take off the bumpstop bracket on the frame (I'm lifted 4" so if my axle ever gets that compressed to where I'd need it ill be in trouble anyways.) Got them for $40 bucks I think from O'Reilly's cause they had been opened.

UPDATE:

Part number 69230 fits!!! /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif Long/medium tube headers for the early K5-K30 trucks fit. They don't hang below the frame, they don't hit the shackle and there is clearance for my hydraulic clutch and all the plug wires. These ones look much better and will allow me more room to make bends to go over the x-member... or just add turn downs /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

I also had a set of the Flowtech headers on my 85K10 with no problems at all. Payed about $100 at Discount. Could easily get to all the plugs.

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

used headman coated with the bigblock. 2nd gen headers on 1st gen, shackle bolts hit! ground end of bolt and dimpled header collector no problems since!

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

Can you get some pics of them installed? I want to run a set, but the last ones I bought had the same issue of hitting the spring bolts. I wanna see how the fit before I drop the $$ for them.

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

I'd like to see a pic or two as well...I'm not concerned with how far mine hang down, but it would be interesting to compare in general.

Re: Hedman hedders hit the shackle!!!

I don't have a digital camera so getting pictures up is kind of a pain. I can try to get some pictures scanned for you guys but it will take a few days. If I get them I'll just post them in here and add another update to the title. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

TND, I know I'm dredging up an old thread and your truck has probably become a truggy by now, lol, but what is or was the set up of your rig (Year, Engine, Tranny, AC, etc.) when you installed these headers? Any special mods to get them to fit? Any problems?

Anyone else ever try these on a 87-91 with a TBI 350?

im running the 90 dollar flowtechs i got off ebay in my 91. i tried the headmans and they didnt work out for me.

Which Hedmans did you try? Were they the 69230's (for the 69-81 trucks) or the 69090's (for the 82-91 trucks). TND refered to using the 69230's and they fit much better, but I don't know what year truck he's running them on.
