Well, I'm officially back in 'Murica for those that didn't know that. Our current (and only) means of transportation is a 2001 wrangler with broken a/c. In Alabama.
The Ram I ordered is now forecast to be delivered in October. So not only do I get to drive the jeep until then, but I can't get the blazer down here until then either. The cherry on top is that the house we rented is in a bit more hoity toity neighborhood that we necessarily wanted, so I'm not sure how the blazer will fit in anyways. I'm 99% sure it'll fit in the garage though. But no real working on it there, just simple stuff. Not what I expected when we found out we'd be moving to 'Bama. Oh well, enough bitching...
So the wrangler was my sisters. When she passed away she willed it to us to keep on the road until my nephew is old enough to drive (he's 5 now). It's spend its whole life in Ohio, and has the scars to show it. Tub isn't terrible, little bit of rust showing below the pass door. Couple spots showing on the doors, and all the hinges and mirrors look like crap. The front fenders are in need of replacing. However, the unfortunate news is that the frame is scaly as hell. Oh, that and the automatic transmission.
My BIL and I threw a left front bearing on it, and a complete set of brake lines before the trip south, but it definitely is going to need some more work, especially long term.
So, I was wondering if any of you guys know where/how to find a TJ that has been rolled or totalled but could be repaired? If I could really get picky, I'd love to find a 05 or 06 rubicon with a 6 speed that has a wasted tub. Swap the body over, fix some rust, mix and match some interior bits and BAM! I'm not exactly holding my breath though.
In the short term, the front u joints are wasted, and there's no oil pressure when started warm (until you rev it up for a second). So I ordered parts to do that stuff for now, and I'd like a small lift and bigger tires sooner or later. I'd really prefer to do that at the same time as the frame though.
Hopefully you guys can help me out on sourcing a donor. I imagine this will turn into a build thread if it does go that way. Definitely not the next project I'd imagined having, especially when the blazer still needs so much. Oh well, it should still be fun.
Here's the only pic I have of it at the moment. I'll get another couple in a bit, but I'm not going out in that heat for just that!
