hei distributor clearance

I agree with Scott on this one. We offer a line of distributors called "Ready To Run" that don't require the use of an external ignition box but will require an external coil.

These distributors are the same size as an original points style distributor so clearance will not be an issue. Internal is an HEI style moduel that produces about twice the output of a stock GM HEI. It has a fully adjustable mechanical advance so it can be tuned to your motor's liking and a vacuum advance if you choose to run one.

Check out www.msdignition.com and search for part number 8360. Also check out the coils part number 8202 and 8207. Both of these will work with this distributor but I would perfer the 8207 myself.

YellowK20 had a good point to about the Pertronix points replacement kit. These work great too; so great in fact that our MSD version will be introduced here in the next couple of months.

Fordum; Mallory? How could you? :shame: Might as well tell him to sell the K5 and but a Bronco! :D

If you have any questions feel free to ask away!

I prefer MSD stuff , I just mentioned the Pertronix as a viable option if he still had his Stock points Dizzy

And your point is???...:haha:

Actually I just thought the flat top in the first link looked cool.

But moving the distributor from the back of the engine to the front would certainly fix any firewall clearance problems.....

O man I feel dumb and noone even caught it....

I thought you guys meant crossfire injection from the 80s corvettes...

Wow...

Think they will make one for my use?

1949 8N Ford tractor with the front mount distributor.

I have one of the Pertronix ones on there now, and it makes all the difference in the world on a wet morning.
But, while I have had no problems so far, I have heard that they have a high failure rate.

Of course, I have the current controlled so it is not getting overloaded like most of them that are just dropped in.

But, it would be nice to have an alternative source.

Understandably so YellowK20, the ignitor kits that replace the points are a neat piece and something we should have done long ago in my opinion. I'm glad we're finally going to offer one.

As far as specifics Fordum I don't know anything yet except for general applications like Chevy, Ford and Dodge. Hopefully it will be a pretty universal piece.

Well,I guess I was mistaken, thinking they made the crossfire type caps for HEI's,the Moroso one in my old Jegs catalog was made for the point style distributors...part # is Jegs 701-72250....There IS a cap available that moves the plug terminals to position them so they point at the plugs on each side of the engine for HEI's ,but it dont look any smaller than the stock cap..part # is Jegs 275-4512B-011....
