i have a 97 k1500 with no 3rd or 4th...(clutches right?) Anyways i found and bought another for dirt cheap but didnt really check it over very well. Ther are no mounts or what have you for the shift box on the drivers side. it has the identical plug on the pass side but obviously wont work for me. My question is what did i reall get and what will it fit?? thanks

you need a 95-up case style with the long shift shaft for the park shift indicator switch.

if you had the bolt bosses on the case just swap the shaft. if not you are basicly s.o.l.

i got paid to swap in a used 4l60-e . lasted 3 weeks.

got paid to pull it and thay remaned it. lasted 2 weeks.

got paid to pull it again and this time thay must have done it write. still going.

got to the point of under 2hrs out and in .

i dont trust a used tranny letalone used 700r4 or 4l60

No 3rd or fourth means you have a bad /stripped foreward sprag. Easy fix.

That is incorrect. A broken sprag would mean zero forward gears EXCEPT 4th and it's not an easy fix. The 3/4 frictions would be easier to replace than the sprag. If you do happen to have a broken sprag one day you can limp home in manual 1, 2, and 3. You just have to shift up and down manually.

There are 2 sprags in a 4l60, a low/reverse and a foreward 3/4 sprag. I do them them all the time at the chevy dealership where I work. I know what I am talking about. Low/ reverse means no body home, 3/4 foreward sprag means if you put it in drive or 3rd on the lever it will not move but will move in low or 2nd. By easy fix I mean if you are halfway mechanically inclined you can do the repair.

It's input sprag and low/roller clutch. Input sprag is not specific to 3rd and it's useless in 4th.

i have a 96 Tahoe...about to have the 4l60e rebuilt for the 3rd time..the trans shop said gm just released a service bulletin that says 96 & 97 may have a ground wire plugged in the wrong place causing the trans to burn out...they want $1400-1500 to pull it and reman it & put it back in w/12 month/12,000 mile warranty, plus they check for the problem the service bulletin addresses.
