is this wise?
i have a six inch lift block with a little taper in it, but not enough. i need to shim the pinion up 9*. can i cut out the 9* of the cast iron block with a bandsaw or something?
i really need to get this working properly before i start driving it 60mi. to school every day. i dont want to shim on my block. also my dad is injured and hes my welder so cutting the perches is not an option at the moment.
im not retarded, and can get it square and clean. with the centering pins i dont think anything will go wrong or it will slip out or anything. is there another alternative answer to my problem? any safety concerns?

thanks in advance for any ideas and help guys. really appreciate it!

The pin needs to be there or it will fall out guess it would be possible but make sure they are the same and good luck,

oh yeah, i would cut iff the top section where the centering pin from the leaf pack goes in. i believe that hole goes all the way through or deep enough if i remember right. if not i could drill it back. thanks for the responses.
this would be temporary till november or something because i have my flip kit but no time or an extra set of hands.

anyone else have any problems with this?

You could maybe have a local machine shop angle mill them for you. It would cost a little $$$ but you would know they were both the same. Because to tell you the truth, a band saw is not that accurate. Now you could clamp it in a chop saw (miter saw) and that would possible help insure a more precise angle.

Six inch lift blocks scare me.

Will that be 9 degrees from horizontal or is that 9 degrees plus the taper of the lift blocks?

Couldn't you just drop the t-case crossmember for the same effect?

If you have the flip I would install it. it does not take that much time. If you have to trim the lift block i would have it milled. then it will be accurate. but by the time you make the effort to remove the block, have it milled and reinstall it, you could have put the flip in.

i also have to put an add a leaf and i might just spend this week doing that.

i can mill it down and the degree would be added to the taper already on there. also the tcase is dropped.

I did this once. I cut through the block with a cut-off wheel to get the right angle. Then I used a belt sander to make the new surface flat. The hardest part is recessing a spot for the bolt head that is parallel to the opposite face of the block. It seems to me I used a drill press with some kind of flat bit.

This was time consuming, but I didn't have to hunt down a machine shop.

well with how easy everyone says the flip is to install, i think im gonna go that route. i have to put in an AAL and a zero rate and the flip kit. i was thinking it would take two days. i figure if im gonna do it im gonna do it right. why piss in the wind and do it again later on. ill be back with some more questions! im still competely unsure of how i am gonna do this zero rate but it bet with it in front of me it will just click.

i think you guys had me fooled! this takes FOREVER!! i spent all day getting ready for the flip kit and boy was it hot. its 102 without the humidity factored in. i got the gas tank out and all the rivet heads ground off but HOW the hell do i get the brackets off!?!?! i gave them a good ol whackin with the BFH and the air hammer. i got one support bracket underneath one side off so far. the others are just so danged hard to get off.

its so nice workign under a lifted truck, i get to sit down when i do it! heres how far i got:

Hit it harder. you can't damage something you are going to throw away. when the brackets come off, grind the rest of the rivets flush with the frame and drive what is left out with a punch and hammer.

I always ground the heads off the inside of the frame. that way when you beat the bracket off it takes the entire rivet with it.

Do you have birds building a nest in your fender? I pulled a taillight once to find the fender almost full of grass. It was complete with little blue eggs.

Anyway, you might have more luck prying the brackets with a giant wrench than just beating them. If you are planning to junk the brackets, get the grinder back out and grind the rivets down further until you are almost through the bracket.

There are a few threads about getting frame rivets out. I had to use a punch and an 8lb hammer. The air hammer did nothing for me.

lol no thats from a recent 'froadin adventure. im gonna finish er up tomorrow. i aint about to grind em from the backside, im already sick of the few i did. i started thinking, eh its only 8. then i found the other 4 on the underside! :doah: then somehow i am missing my ratchet and an asst of wrenches. wtf man, ive just bought them in DEC. thanks for the ideas guys, and dustin id love to come to san marcos but for all summer this hasnt been a road truck over 30 mph. i seem to wait till the last minute like always. thanks for offerin and well meet up later.

Try a punch and a hammer on the rivet heads:dunno: drill them out?
x2
Try the punch and if it doesnt work then hit it harder. If it still doesnt work drill out some and keep trying untill youve taken off enough material for them to come out
