ok so we finished changing my blown up 350 for another 350 out of a 69. we put my carb back on and hooked up everything but the exhaust manafoilds, all smog stuff, plugs to carb. so its just engine, carb, and distributer. its a stock quadrajet and a hei ignition. so mi engine turns over but it dosent fire? it has spark and gas we checked. what would the problem be?

Is the timing correct? Being 180* off will make it not run. I'd reinstall the distributor before doing anything else. Make sure #1 is on TDC of the compression stroke. What is the compression of the new motor? Was it a runner before you swapped it in? Or did you find it, and then stick it in?

ok will do. and the engine was a runner, then pulled, then i bought it. its a stock 350 small block from 1969 idk what the compression iz

If it was a running motor before you dropped it in, I'd be willing to bet it is the timming that is off. A less likely cause could be that it is very worn out. Not creating enough of a seal in the cylinders. Or the cam could be wiped out....not letting the valves open like they should.

im thinking its the timing because we started it up on a stand b4 we droped it in. does any1 know how to find the firing order numbers on a HEI distributer? we took the cap off and i think we messed up the position. any ideas guys?

http://www.joby.se/corvette/misc/firing_order.gif If the pic don't work. It says 84-86...but it will be the sama as your's.

is it backfiring or showing any signs of life? make sure your hot wire to your coil is still hot or geting power...have you tried holding the throttle to the floor? usually if timing is off it will back fire or stumble or show some signs of life....make sure you got the wire goin to distributor cap hook up to the correct terminal that says BATT and not the Tach side...
