So I pull my old leaking fuel pump to swap in the new one.
Everything comes apart fine but while installing the new one I see the rod that pushes on the pump is in the way.

I try moving it manualy, no movement.
I try turnig the crank by hand, no movement.
I try cranking the motor over several times with the starter, no go.

What am I not doing? I have changed many fuel pumps and never had this problem.

Thanks in advance.

The pump pushrod should slide up/down freely by hand. If not there are more problems.

What you should do...
remove the bolt on the front of the block that lines up with the pushrod
push the rod up by hand till it stops
thread a longer bolt into the hole in the front of the block to hold the pushrod in place
if you don't have a longer bolt, use a screwdriver and hold pressure on it
install new fuel pump
*very important* remove longer bolt and replace with original short one

You can try the bolt on the front of the block.
WHat i do is to use a flat slim head screwdriver, a long one and just hod the rod in and dish it out with the pumps lever i use longer bolts as well for the pump.
I was always told to add some oil on the tip of the pumps lever.

Thanks guys.

This is exactly what I ended up doing.

Seems I had the motor at just the rught place that the rod wouldn't move:confused:.

Just hit the starter a bit and I could get it to move but I ended up tearing the gaskett so I guess it will wait a couple days:doah:.
