So I have a major dilema here. My 84 m1009 blazer, my first car, has been giving me a lot of trouble lately. I have it all fixed, but I fear that its going to need a new radiator and injector pump soon. I have an offer for a trade for a 1990 k1500 4x4. Both trucks have 4 inch suspension lifts, the k1500 has 33s and the k5 35s. The pickup has 86k on the clock with a 350 and a stick shift, had trans work done at 60k, and the blazer just over 100k. The pickup is shortbed standard cab by the way. Neither of them have major problems right now. I'm test driving the truck wednesday. I just need some outside opinions on these trucks to see what everyone thinks is a better truck. I love my blazer, but it might be time for something new.

I want a 6.2 so I say keep the blazer. I just sold my first truck and I miss it so bad. But that's just me. I love my blazer but there's nothing like that first truck

6.2 are great when they work. Otherwise boat anchors. Keep the blazer and put a gasser if the dizzle craps out. It's better body style anyway.

if it's your first vehicle, and you've kept your hands on it this long there must be some sentimental value. second - obviously the guy see's more value in yours so why is he trading you in the first place?

you may get yourself into a worse situation with a different vehicle. I'd stick with what you got unless you 'need' a truck.

I agree!

personally id stick with the blazer, anything old is going to need money to keep going, atleast with your truck u know what u got into it. and i hate ifs. so many issues.

I too would stick with what you've got. I threatened so sell my first truck many times after becoming angry with the issues it had. I ended up trashing it before it ever got sold and beat myself up over it all the time.

I agree with solowookie, if you've kept it this long there must be some sentimental value that will most likely bother you if you get rid of it.

x3, at least right now you know your vehicle and what you've got in it. Who knows what you might run into with someone else's deal.

X a lot. You may find that going from a blazer to a standard cab truck you begin to really miss the extra inside space you don't have.

Or pop the top and back seat if you need a shortbed. But I too would keep the blazer. You could also get a cheap 4x8 trailer for those times you need to haul stuff.

Another for the Blazer... front end work on these rigs is so simple compared to an IFS truck.

Might consider, if your Blazer has the stock axles and gear ratios, an upgrade to either 3.73's or 4.10's... the 3.08s that came stock in those trucks are real doggy with anything bigger than stock.

I would keep the blazer, You already know whats wrong with it. plus the parts are alot cheaper for the blazer.

Ya, all the reasons for the blazer are pretty good. I guess I'll really have to see the pickup to see how I feel about it. I am going to college this fall and can't afford to have 1000 dollars worth of work for the truck this summer. I also want something I can drive to North Carolina in comfortably. The blazer doesn't fit that bill. Who knows though, I won't trade for something worse than what I already have thats for sure. Wish me luck for tomorrow.

As with everyone else, I agree.Keep the blazer, I still have my first blazer, even though I havent driven it in a long time. Really starting to miss it.

I have 2 thoughts.

1. you could NEVER get me to trade a solid axle for a simularly valued IFS. This is a move you will regret time and time again. On a 90 I would assume the lift is also older and the reason he wants to get rid of it is because of the inherant problems with older IFS lifts. They eat tires, half shafts, and balljoints, and need an alignment every few months.

2. I promise you will hate the change from a roomy blazer to a crappy reg cab truck. While I like the looks of a reg cab truck, they SUCK for room inside. Other than my 77 I doubt I will ever own a reg cab again.

GM torsion bar IFS = the SUCK. I had a '92 K1500 Blazer and it sucked. Okay...no, the truck was great...the IFS sucked ass. So much that I sold the truck because of it. Nothing else gave much trouble other than the front. Even 33's are marginal on GM half ton IFS if it's got some age and use on it.
Not to mention as mentioned the lifts on them are just...gah...don't even get me started...gah...

I actually don't mind the space in Big Ugly's cab but then again nothing compares to a Blazer. I do notice when I drive Big Ugly instead of my Tracker I keep finding myself having to put stuff on the floor or having just a pile of stuff on the bench next to me. In the Tracker I can at least fling it in the back.

Work, save, and put some effort into the m1009.

Keep the blazer, there always going to be worth more in the long run. I drove someone else's IFS rig back from the airport once, and the knuckle broke in half on the freeway. After I 3 wheeled that pos to the side of the road, I told myself NEVER AGAIN, No ifs for me.

hands down. Keep the blazer. You will regret letting it go. Like a previous person said, you know what you've put into it already and the more you replace, the less you will have to replace later . The '90 1500 will have its own quirks and may take an unexpected crap on you two months down the road.

for sentimental purposes, everyone who let their first truck go hates themselves for it. Myself included. You will always wonder "What If". I came across my 1st truck not long ago 6 years after I traded it in on "a newer vehicle". I stopped and BS'ed with the owner, described all the quirks that he thought only he knew, gave him my number and told him to call if he ever wanted to sell it, ever. I changed numbers and now all I know is that it belongs to an old black man who lives in or around Fort Worth TX who uses it to go fishing on the weekends. What kind of life is that? That truck was suppose to have a big-block,1-tons and 44's damnit! And I have no vin# to try to track it down.

anyway

Besides, later on down the road once you've completely rebuilt the blazer you will always be able to say you did. And hell, its a diesel blazer. They seriously need a Banks kit to be liveable but they are just cool. Bottom line.
