I'm going either 35 or 37, leaning 37 at the moment. I'm after performance and value. I want them to work on the street, but won't be putting a lot of miles on them, so it's not important that they wear well with mileage. These are the one I'm thinking about right now.

BFG KM2 (37x12.5R17) (74#) - $395
Have these on my Jeep and like them well enough. Kind of spendy compared to other options though. Why are they so light?

Cooper Discoverer STT (37x12.5R17) (84#) - $325
Not sure about these, but they are a bargain compared to the others.

Toyo Open Country MT (37x13.5R17) (93#) - $360
I wish these came in 12.5. Heaviest on the list.

Pitbull Rocker Radial (37x12.5R17) (90#) - $450
Most expensive...

Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar (37x12.5R17) (75# ?) - $380
Just added.

Hummer Tires (37x12.5R16.5) (95# + heavy ass wheels) - $150-200
Different options, but all relatively cheap. Not viable for me without beadlocks. Getting those done right at trailworthy fab look like wheels would be in the $300+ range depending on 8 vs. 12 bolt, etc. That's $200+ more than I'd spend for the others, so for apples-to-apples the tires are now around $400 equivalent. But then I have double beadlocks... but they aren't technically street legal...

Thoughts?

No. I meant the new style "Kevlar" ones. I can't say enough good stuff about them. Im a bit disappointed with the km2

I've got Cooper Discoverer AT3's (31x10.5X15) on mine. LOVE them. Good all around tire. Not for serious off roading, but for getting to the fishing hole or snowy roads, I've had NO problems (even when the snowplow plows in both ends of my road), I just blow right through, not that you're going to have this problem in Tucson.

I have the hummer tires on my blazer paid 450 for the set 2 years ago. They ride really well on highway and they don't see many of those miles just local roads mainly and I would definitely buy another set. I paid about 100 for the black steelies from 4wheel parts so for 550 in them and the way they ride on road and do really well off I'm glad I went with them.

If I understand right though, the 16.5's have no real bead and rely on high pressure to stay seated. If I want to do some crawling with lower pressure, I think it's a bad recipe. That's why I figure I need beadlocks if I go that route.

Ive always liked the cooper ST more than the STT. I was always happy with the st on my old burb. My uncle tried them around the farm and now has them on all 3 of his trucks and my dad has went to them too. my buddies 95 chevy on 35" STT's was winched out quite q few times... different uses I know but that's the only experience ive had with them. the bigger/ wider ST's have a nice look to them too

I've always been a firm believer in "You get what you pay for" when it comes to tires.

My top 2 picks would be the KM2 and the MTR/Kevlar. In whichever order you choose, I like them both equally.

Currently running KM2s on my K5 right now. They haven't let me down off road and on road they are quiet for an MT tire, hardly any road noise. They balance out nice and smooth and my truck routinely sees 70+ mph on the highway without a single shake. Aired down they seem to hold the truck just fine as well as grip the rocks really well.

I loved the stt's I had on my Colorado. They worked great in snow, sand, mud, and lasted quite a while. I had about 45k miles on them when I sold the truck and they still had some life left. They are noisy on road though.

Any opinions on tires and custom wheels from trailworthy fab?

I know the ones that Jerry (my friend) has are 37s because he wanted to trade me for the burb. Might give them a call Tuesday.

If I go with 17"x8.5" wheels with 37x12.5 tires, what backspacing is reasonable? I was thinking 4 or 4.5, but I'm not certain. I'm not interested in any kind of tires-sticking-out type look, but don't want to rub on the inner. I used to have 14.5" wide tires and they'd rub in the rear at the inside of the fender well.

I'm running 17x9 H2 wheels and they run about, or damn near, 5" bs. They look fine on the truck but tuck in just a bit too much for my liking. I plan on buying 1" spacers to put them in a better position, yet still not outside of the fenders. I'd say you're good with a 4-4.5" bs.

Hard to see from this pic, but it's the only one I have access to right now.

Searching Summit, it looks like either 3.5 or 4.5 is possible (in steel). I was going to go with 4, so now I'm torn, especially if you found 5" to be kind of tucked.
