Help me plan the 78's future cam choice.

Wait wait wait.. I have a core 010 4 bolt 350 block. It runs, but Has 300k miles on it. want it? It's a long block but I think the heads are cracked. I have had it on Craigslist for $50. Nobody wants it. I can throw it in the "pile" for you. Well....not actually throw it. I'm done with sbc's. At least that generation of them.

Oh I just love AND hate you! I feel like I would be a fool to not take it, but I don't really have the space! Oh boy... Let me think about it I guess. If it will make your life easier for me to haul it off for you, I will do it just to help you out after all you have done for me. Cause I can make space for it.

On the exhaust manifolds, the tbi manifold do have a bigger outlet. The vortec manifolds look better yet, but I couldnt get them to fit in the square body I was working on. They hang down from the motor a little lower and would hit the frame.

Thanks for the info! I was wondering about that! I know the tbi ones will work cause theycame in squares , but didn't know for sure on the vortechs.

Ive run the 1102 and I like it. IMO seemed like a good all around cam for a stockish SBC.

I know you said you want to keep it all stock, But I would look into a roller cam, and maybe more modern heads also. By the time the 882's or 624's are redone correctly youre getting close to the cost of new aftermarket stuff.

Ideally, I would run a set of the heads that look stockbut have vortec ports and ccombustion chambers! But that's something I can do at a later date when I have the dough. To continue that thought about the roller cam, my ideal situation there would be to get a late model short block. This way it would have the one piece rear main and already set up for roller stuff. I the problem with that (that I still need to do a little research on) is that I want to stick with a mechanical fuel pump and I have heard different stories on the fuel pump push rod hole, and the availability of a camera designed to fit in a factory roller block that still has a fuel pump lobe.

I was running a crane cam with 210/216 @.050 duration and 1.6 rockers and I would never run anything smaller in a 350 great power down low to about 5500 barely noticeable idle and I pulled. My ski boat regularly with it. Look into the comp extreme energy line if your keeping the stock heads

Faster ramp profile and split pattern cam with exhaust having more duration which helps with stock heads. I am going with the extreme energy 274 cam in my 327

I think that would be perfect choice and it would make great torque. Just be sure to use the correct valve springs with those fast ramps
