I need an axle shop! I am weighing the price difference / headache factor for just replacing my gears (2.73 on 32s) or swapping in new front and rear axles. Problem is I can't find any shops up here in Brooklyn that do gear swaps! I got limited storage space (no garage) so swapping the axles is tough, even though it might be smarter in the long run. Any ideas? /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Re: Help NY Area People! SHOPS anyone?

It will be alot cheaper to find a good set of axles then to have the gears replaced in a set of 10bolts. An axle swap is a very easy thing to do, you can even do it in the streets of Barookalin. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Re: Help NY Area People! SHOPS anyone?

The problem with buying axles is the shipping unless I can find a good pair in a salvage yard. From what I understand I need to find a SUB or a K5 with a towing package to get the 3.73 or 4.10 gears. That is gonna be assuming they are in good condition. I need these to be bolt in, since I have no garage!

From what I can gather I should also look for 28 spline shaft axles, since they are more common and cheaper to get shafts for even though the 30 splines are better?

i think the ones in your 89 is 30 spline that may make you want to do a gear swap /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I could hook you up with a set of 1 ton axles here in Pa. Not the cheapest route to take but in the long run if you plan to wheel it it is cheaper.

Yeah, 1-tons might be a bit expensive...I don't wheel like a mad man and I only got 32s...As long as it is bolt in, I am interested!
