Help, truck wont start!

I have an 84 2wheeldrive s-10 longbed. It started to not run a couple of days ago and I pushed started it and drove a little ways. Sadly, it eventually died and would not accept another pushstart. Interestingly enough, about 4 hours later, the battery cables were f^$%#@g hot. I put in my blazers battery and the truck still wouldn't start. What could it be? Any ideas. All comments and ideas appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like your starter...it must be drawing alot of current if it got the cables hot.

you didnt run out of oil did you ?
does the engine even turn over or does it
just make a clicking sound when you hit the key?
