87 tbi, went from a 305 to a 350, now i can not get the timing to set, went by the specs the cam came with, 5 btdc

You disconnected the bypass wire (lots of posts describing the wire on this board) before trying to set base timing, then set base timing at 0*?

5* is a lot of additional timing, most that have tried timing that far advanced on TBI haven't had good luck.
