Help with Cruise control

Any luck 4X? I have the factory schematics here if you still need them, for my 89. Let me know. Sorry I didn't catch this post until this afternoon.

Very nice K5 by the way....

I won't have time to play with it again until saturday but if you have the factory schematics and some sort of diagnostic sheet that would be of great help.

Also thanks for the props on my K5.

Hey, Welcome Back! It has been a few years. I hope all is well.

Now on the topic:
on my '91, there is a cruise control switch that sits just next to the brake light switch and is activated by the brake pedal. The switch has a wire connector (forget if it is 1 or 2 wires) and the vacume dump to deactivate the CC. Just one more item to check.

good luck,

I've already looked at that thinking maybe I bumped it and it got out of adjustment but the button is still depressed when the brake pedal is stationary (no brakes applied). The wire connector has 2 wires on it and then the vacuum hose.

Well the manual is of course very similar to what Fordum posted. Basically you've got a 4 prong connector at the cruise activation switch: A=139- Pink / Blk Hot in start/run. B= 397-Gray brake switch. C=83-DK GRN cruise engage switch @ module. D= 84 DK Blu cruise engage switch @ module.

From the cruise module (passenger side of firewall) out through the firewall/cowl grommet to another connector (6 prong / position). Outputs from the cruise module that run to the cruise servo:
Circuit #403-DK BLU/WHT
398-TAN
150- BLACK (Ground)
399- Lt Blu/ Blk
402-Lt Grn

At the cruise module 402/399 are on the vac valve side, 403/398 on the vent side.

Back to the cruise module (passenger side of firewall). Cruise module CIR#397-Gray to brake switch (automatic), other side is 87 -Gray/Blk on the brake switch. Normally closed, tripped open.

Yellow (CIR#400) goes to VSS. Gasoline only. Diesels use a little different set up.

I can scan them to ya, but have to get to work to do so. Hope this helped a little anyhow. Sorry, it didn't come across as clear as it seemed as I was typing. Let me know what else I can do.

Any chance the switch on the brake pedal got disturbed?

You may want to check the switch for vacume integrity. Inside the switch is a small oring. When the button is released (pressing the brake pedal) the oring moves to vent the vacume line and deactivate CC. If that oring leaks, then no CC.
