Ok guys here is what I have: 72 blazer with 12 bolt rear 44 front 4.56 gears and detroit lockers in both. Running alcan springs and clearing 36" TSLs. It has a sm465 and 205 transfer case. Strong running/aggressive built 350 motor.
My first goals it to build stronger drivelines, and go to a CV style for the rear as I seem to go through u joints faster than normal (think my rear angle is right at the limit) Not to mention the drive lines are stock. I have a good local builder. Also at somepoint this year I am going to buy a dana 60 front and a 14 bolt rear to build(Probably late summer/fall). If I do this will I need to change drivelines for the dana 60/14 upgrade?
Also I am saving money now and am a good ways to getting an atlas 4 speed tranny. If I get this can I get away with a 60/14 combo that has like 4.10 maybe even a something 3.73 range to keep my road manners good, but go low for a good trail?
When I do all of this, the 44 and 12 bolt currently under the blazer will be going to my 85 CJ. I want to stick with the same rim size all around. I know that you can grind down the 60 to fit a 15" rim, but where can I find a set of 8 hole rims in a 15?
This would allow me to swap out tires (have a tire machine) for different vehicles on different trails.
What else would you do? I am using this as the ultimate hunting/family rig. My 4 year old daughter loves riding in it to school, but I also want to gear down and go pretty hardcore without going full buggy. I am thinking about doing more of a suspension lift and trying to clear a 40" tire, but am not sure how much more lift it would take? Right now I believe my alcan springs give me about 8" over stock.
BTW here are some shots of us out playing. I know I also need a full cage, and I will have a 9000 pound winch in it soon.
