Am I going crazy, it seems this should be a super popular item, trunk mat, for a 1970 impala.
There seems only one company that makes them (ACC) , sold through various retailers like classicindustries,rockauto,raybuck,impalas.com,impalabobs... etc...They're all selling the same thing.

All they have is burtex, rubber, felt, foam or vinyl. The OEM one is none of those and none of theirs have any backing. My original seems a woven cloth with a foam backing (that's disintegrated, the cloth and foam). Am I going nuts or are there really no replacements for this? It doesn't need to be concours level replacement, but at least an attempt at the oem style would be nice. Rubber or viynl is a completely different material, not even sure what a wholly foam liner would look or feel like.

They say you can order samples but when you go to do that, all they have are carpets, not the trunk mats.
I'm either missing something here, or I'm going crazy because I can't believe nobody sells an original style replacement.

You mean something like this?

Yeah, that's the ACC mat everyone sells. Your choice of rubber, vinyl, foam, burtex. They just print the pattern in the material. It's nothing like the original. My original is a woven cloth stuck to a foam backer, kinda like a headliner.
I'm wondering, where are the concours guys getting their trunk mats from, it's not ACC, while they make nice mats, none of them are anything close to OEM. My car is all original with 62kmi, although never been restored its in more or less good to excellent condition. I could just get one of the ACC mats, but, I still find it very perplexing that nobody sells an OEM type mat.

Well I got to the bottom of this. The bottom line is, ACC doesn't seem to know how to properly market or describe their mats.
They just say "foam" or "Vinyl" . That's pretty dumb. They do give free samples if you call or email them personally and ask for one or two of something specific. Even on the phone, they were unable to describe the makeup of the trunk mats when I asked. They only offered to send me samples.
The "Foam" mat is exactly what I was looking for, a woven material backed with foam. It's not as heavy of a weave as original but, it's pretty close.
The Vinyl mat is vinyl top backed with a different type of vinyl or rubber, I can't really tell. It looks and feels like linoleum. It's colors are alot more muted too. It's more heavy duty than the "foam" mat though. Although the pictures of it seem to bring out the colors. In person the vinyl one really seems muted. It's probably better suited for a trunk that would get heavy use, but the most mine sees is a couple shot guns or a bag of golf clubs on occasion.

Top is "foam", bottom is "Vinyl" and the big piece is a swatch of the original mat.

In this one the top sample is vinyl and the bottom is foam, as labeled.

Right is "foam", left is "Vinyl". Big piece is original.

Isn't that the truth? I never take someone's word over the phone like from a parts yard...I go look myself. It could have been marketing or it may just be lack of knowledge on the part of the person on the phone. Either way, glad you found it.

So do all the suppliers sell the same foam type and of that thickness?

Iirc, my foam is a good bit thicker than that and I'd guess that yours used to be too.

All the "suppliers" sell the same supplier's mat. ACC makes them. Classic,rock,impalabob..etc.etc.etc. all sell ACC mats.
There's a few more core suppliers other than ACC for super popular cars like Mustangs and Camaro's...

My original mat was heavy woven, almost a twine weave. The ACC "foam" mat is woven but much lighter more of a cloth than a twine weave. But the foam backing is the same thickness as original.
