So I have a D70 and I am trying to get the yoke off. The nut is the tightest thing ever! I have an impact gun and socket but it was so tight I ended up rounding out the nut pretty bad and now the socket just spins on it.

I cut off one side of the yoke and pounded on a smaller socket but that didn't work. I don't have a welder until next week and I really want to get this pinon out since I sold it to a member here! Here is a pic.... ideas?

Any ideas???

I don't need the yolk... should I try and cut it off?

Thanks for the help

Use a 6 point socket on a 6 sided nut and that won't happen.

Thanks for the help... It was a 6 point but because of the yolk it only went about 3/4 of the way down. Again, thanks for the help.

Wow, try to help a guy out and he gets all butt hurt. I'm sorry you didn't think to do something with the socket to have FULL engagement with the nut you were trying to remove. The reason i said to use a 6 point socket on a 6 sided nut is because i see way too many people using the incorrect tool for the job at hand. I myself have never had a nut strip when using the proper socket.

see if you can find a thin wall socket that will fit between the nut and yoke. there might be enough surface left to get a good bite. hit it w/ a torch first then use a breaker bar instead of the impact?

I dont mean to sound butt hurt. I know that I F'd up and should have had the socket fully engaged. Your previous reply sounded more like a jab than advise. I was looking for help on what to do now.

I was going to try that today. Thanks.

Anyone know if they make one of those cool striper sockets this big?

Sorry, i wasn't taking a jab just giving advise. There are too many people though that don't use the proper socket.

Its cool, thanks for the advise. Any idea on what to do now? I am not sure I will be able to make enough contact on the bottom 1/4 of the nut to get it off. Looks like the person before me that tightened it kinda rounded it already.

Soap, water, and a spatula usually gets yolk off for me. :D

If you still have issues with your YOKE, then everyone has already told you as much as can really be told. After that, bust out the drills and sawzalls, cuz you're cutting the yoke off, and the nut too.

You can't really cut the nut off because you risk destroying the pinion threads.

I would cut off the front half of the yoke flush with the back of the nut and then see if you can weld a socket (or another nut) to the one that's on there. Cutting into the nut like this guy cut into his kingpins will make it a LOT easier.
