Howdy y'all,
I drive a 1985 k5 Blazer, and Im looking for one of those LMC black grille guards (lmc part number 38-3811) but lmc doesn't seem to carry it anymore. anyone looking to sell theirs? or know where i could get the same one?

My other question is what is the difference between the k5 blazer silverado and the k5 blazer custom? and how do i know which one mine is?

Also, is anyone selling a winch? 3,000lbs or bigger is what im looking for.

Thanks so much for any help!

-Mick

Silverado was the loaded package. Usually had power windows/locks carpet, cloth seats. Headliner, interior trim ect ect

Most had auto trannys and would have the 350

The custom deluxe is your plain Jane truck. Vynel seats, manual everything. No A/C no carpet. No interior trim. Some had manual trannys with 305 motors

Then there was the Cheyenne package which was the middle ground of the 3

However you could get pretty much anything you want if you ordered it back then. You could get a silverado with a manual or a custom deluxe with A/C it was all just on how the trims were packaged.

As for if people are selling stuff, there is a classified section on this forum for buying and selling. No doing that in the garage.

also for knowing which package you have, if your sticker is still on the glovebox it will tell you, or I do believe you can look it up by the vin

If you are looking for a winch, you'll want one that is at least 1.5 times the weight of your truck. So, a 3k winch isn't going to do much of anything.

I'm no winch expert, but guys here are running anywhere from 6k-12k winches.

I'd aim for the 9000lb capacity.

You might check with JC Whitney regarding that grille guard; I purchased their chrome version. Although the chrome is flaking and the tubes are rusty, and if you push anything with it, I'm sure it would fold, it does serve a purpose of mounting my fog lights:

Here's a decent image from a bit more than a year ago. Photo taken by my wife on a short trip to Lake Tahoe:

Good luck in your search,

if you can find someone parting a mill truck m-1009 or m-1008 or m-1028 then grab the brush gaurd from it . direct bolt on minus longer bolts to your 80's vehicle. then paint it black.
much stronger than aftermarket and look factory.

ccarley - do you know the part number? Im looking for one of those too... exact same thing you have

dhcomp: Thanks for the info, im new to all this stuff. Any brand that is better then the others?

ccarley: Sweet truck, and thanks for the help. Does that one come in black?

Thanks, Mickconnors. JC Whitney does list it in black as well. It's "modular", as in you can add the headlight guards. I liked it better without though.

Then again I think I might need something better in the front later on... with a place to store my Hi Lift...

Do a quick search on here for winch info. Some have had decent luck wiht certain cheap winches, but really....you get what you pay for.
