I think I am going to steal your idea for the CB. I have that exact radio, and thought it might fit in the ashtray but wasn't sure. Now that I know, and I don't use the ashtray for my cigs since it is inconvienent, that will be perfect. I will probably create a small sheetmetal panel to fill the rest, and mount some cigarette lighter plug ins, as you have done. Mine will probably be reversed, meaning radio at the bottom.

i was gonna fill that in too but remeber that your cb has a speaker thats self contained...

If I add a CB I plan on using the middle dash speaker as the external speaker...could do that then he wouldn't need to worry about it being covered.

I put my CB where my stock radio was, and put the radio in the dash vent. Turned out pretty nice.

I have an external speaker that I just need to install. I figured since I was going to be putting in a dash pad cover, that I would go ahead and install it where the original center speaker was, like Jon was planning on doing. It is going to be a really nice weekend, and I am stuck at home, so I can get some work done on the Blazer.

I'm waiting on it to warm back up a bit so I can open the garage doors and get back to it.

My daughter is having her tonsils and adenoids removed on Friday, and my wife works all weekend, so I will have time. Nice thing is, it is supposed to be in the upper 40's on Saturday, and nearly 60 on Sunday. I should be able to wear shorts.:D

I'm getting better about working in the cold. I don't mind it as much if it's inside the garage. The wind is what really pisses me off most.

Ya or it could be like workin in my friends garage, Its really small so you have to open up the doors so you still got some of the wind.

But then again he has a 2 car garage with 2 lifted samurais in it and all of his tools, work bench, like 3 transmissions and t-cases, a spare engine, a fridge, a cabnit for full of fluids and grease stuff like that. lol

Mine's a 2-car garage, but not the biggest one I've seen by far. Luckily there's nothing in there but the K5, my tools, a few odds and ends and my kerosene heater.

different approach- ai am mounting aux light switches where ashtray used to be so that the panel opens down to expose the switches. will leave cigarette lighter, or thinking about mounting a Cobra CB(all controls in mike) where the lighter went. then the switches and CB all disapear when not needed.

Yes, I imagine if I had a 10,000 sq/ft garage I'd still find a way to fill it... :doah:
