Hi lift

Yea, it pisses me off. I have having my drop hitch and hook in my floorboard all the time. Rattling around and making noise. Lucky for me my truck hasnt seen anything other than the garage in awhile now.

I just built some brackets in my old K5 and did what some other have done, mounted it in the rear seat foot well.

In my 73 the floor was flat all the way forward to the front seats and there are some bolts that hold the floor together, I just took a couple of those out and got some longer bolts. But that will only work in a full vert

Be careful if you have to actually use the damn thing. I have seen more than one person with their jaw wired shut due to one.

True, but always keep the broken jaw in mind when you are using one.

They really should be secured. If you're in an accident a Hi Lift can be a lethal projectile.

Any plans for a roof rack? I think there is a weatherproof case available. Everything with the name "HI LIFT" on it is overpriced, but there is a ton of stuff available.

i just need to get the thing off of the floor in the back, everytime i hit a speed bump too fast it sounds like my truck is gonna come apart, i did have it in the back seat but that is now occupied by my front drive shaft

you're saying that these trucks don't normally sound like that? sheeeeit, i must be doing something wrong.

Sorry for the giant pic....

Yessir on the broken jaw, I almost got a new set of teeths when I was younger. Them things are no joke.

You guys would be appalled by some of the things I've used mine for... One example: lifting my truck in my garage by the clevises to change out leaf springs. Very carefully. :eek1:

To be honest, It happened so fast it was a blur. We were using one as a winch. Jacking it with one end attached to a tree, and the other to a chain around the bumper. The truck either suddenly moved, or the tree maybe, and the handle ratcheted around and nearly took my mouth with it. I could just about smell and taste the powder coating. They are a dangerous garage toy, even used correctly. Just have to be careful with them.

We were in a hurry, as the truck was not were it was supposed to be, and the girls said if we get it out without damaging it, we could drink for free all night. So I wake up in the late afternoon, with a local strip clubs glitter all over me, mud tracks in the house, and a hazy memory of a c-section scar and what I believe to be a dragon or strange looking fish tattoo. :dunno: Worth it :haha:

does anyone remember when cars only came with those type of jacks???
Most of mine still had the original in them, thrown in the trunk of course, never put away like they were supposed to be under the spare tire or in the brackets that were part of the trunk or rear fenderwell.

Mine is on the roof rack.

Hi Lift, shovel, and ax are all easy access but exposed to the elements.

Its when your trying to lower the jack, there is a release point. Its kinda hard to explain, but ill try.

You know with a conventional floor jack, when you go to lower the car, you just turn the handle and itll come down pretty quick if you turn the handle all the way.

With the Hi-Lift, you have to use the handle the same way you do when jacking it up, meaning you have to control it up AND down, so you will slowly pump the handle to lower the truck, just like when you do going up. But if you hit the release and dont have your hand on the handle or if the handle is in the down (out position). when you hit the release, the weight of the truck will force the jack down and Whip the handle UP, usually right into someones face.
