Hidden Winch/Better Approach Angle

like the simple yet effectice clevis mounts. kinda cucv style

VT... Damn you are good.

The only I might do differently is hide the fairlead behind the bumper and use the license plate to cover the hole.

Yup coulda' done it that way but I was going for the subtle 'beefie' look as YJ put it. :smirk:

Wow, vt that setup is looking awesome! Can't wait to see it when it's done. I agree, you dont want a cow catcher on the frt. to interfere with the angles. Plus your idea looks more stock with attitude! Any idea how much the winch weighs?

Weighs?

All that's currently there is the stock bumper but plans are to do a tube reinforcement behind it tied into the frame.

In the end I'll be saving (guessing) around 60/70lbs from what I took off.

Between the bumper and the new rock sliders I bet I've lightened the blazer by at least 150lbs.

Beefed up behind the bumper by building a tube structure from .094 DOM.

Feelin' better about bouncing off the rocks now.

Hi,

Do you have any more pictures of how the winch fits up under the radiator support core? I never even thought of mounting the winch that way, instead of with the bolts pointing down, but damnt that is a great idea...

Don't have any more, posted em all.

The pics posted pretty much show it all, not much more involved than what you can see.

I have to say that is the best winch mount thread I've seen. If you dont mind I'll copy it! (some of it) Right now I have a big bugger hanging out on the front of my K5, hung on with 6" angle iron, waiting to either catch my kids head, my arm, or some sue happy neighbor.

Did you have to cut much of the radiator and grill supports?

Where on your winch is the remote connector? Mine (cheap, not Warn) is on the top near the lever, I may not need to clock mine and the plug in is just above that.

Didn't cut any of the grill or rad support.

Did have to clock the in/out lever though.

Control hook-up is in the rear (used to be the top) so I just made up the wire permanent and mounted a switch on the dash.

I took the lead from you, thanks for the original post, it helped a lot...

NICE! :waytogo:

One of the best mods I've done to date, enjoy your new/improved approach angle.

Thanks for the post.

that looks great, are you also goin' to put your OEM bumper back on?

No tengo bumper...I am going to leave it just like that, maybe add a stinger, but that's about it..

I love your inner bumper framework- that is a dang good idea!

Found out it was well worth doing the last trip out, beat the crap out of it more than a few times and it seamed to stay in the original location even...:smirk:
