Hidden Winch

It has a large worm drive on the bottom though. I think the housing is larger than my warn 10K. I might mock it up next weekend see how it fits.

''Small'', it is only a 8K winch.

I've been thinking along the same lines. I want a front-mounted winch that's compatible with a tilt front clip

Thats a good idea. I had to cut up the front of mine to clear the 8274...
I'm rethinking the front bumper... I might lower the winch a bit, not sure what I'll do.:dunno:

So i set my PTO winch in place to see if it would work behind the front bumper, the winch sticks down a bit but i think i could live with it (much better than the huge bumper i was going to use). It will be tough to build mounting brackets as there is not much space but it can be done. I may tackle it. I am going to get the rear winch in first i think though.

Some pics and a size reference pic as it sits beside my warn 10K.

One more and the bumper that the winch came in. I removed all the grill gaurd monstrousity and was going to use the bumper like that but it is huge!

how much have you used HF winch? work ok?

Truthfully, I havent used it but once and that was only to respool it. I hooked it up to a wrecker to put tension on it. Its a 9k winch and when we put both vehicles in Park just to see how it would do, it was kinda scarey, while it worked Im glad I didnt get the 8k one. I think I would use my snatch blocks if I really had to use to get unstuck. I dont have much experience with winches, but honestly if you plan to use one alot, get the biggest you can afford. Ive never heard of having TOO MUCH winch, only too little. I think with our big ass trucks 12k should be minimum. I was pulling on flat ground, I couldnt imagine trying to get something unstuck from the mud, since if you bottom out in the mud you have to overcome the vacuum effects of it which is alot more than just pulling on flat ground. Also with a winch Id say dual batts is mandatory. When we was respool I ran with the truck running and one battery, as soon as I combined the two batts it was alot easier.

The respooling was to respool and to educate myself on the proper operations and precautions of the winch. I was in a tow yard with a very well educated tow driver, so I got to learn the dos and donts. Believe me , there are plenty of them.

HOpe this helps. I got the HF winch cheap. I got the 9k for the price of the 8k, I knew I wouldnt be winching very much if at all, so I went the cheaper route and really hope it holds up. about once a year I unwind it and spray it down with lube and respool to make sure its all working well, etc.

So i already scrapped the idea of running the pto in the front, not enough room and it would hang down to low, gonna put the 10K electric up front and the pto behind the rear bumper, fits much nicer.
